Update: Translation and Transliteration Implementation
Dear T/T IRT, Thank you for your patience as we continue to draft and review the T/T policy document on our end. We’ve had to negotiate a few vacation schedules (mine’s coming up Sept 1 -10), but will aim to pick things back up in earnest mid-September. You can find the latest implementation plan on the Wiki: https://community.icann.org/display/gnsottcii/IRT+Meetings+and+Discussion+Ma... Also, if you haven’t already, please note this correspondence: https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/correspondence/diaz-to-atallah-01aug17.... It details the Registry Stakeholder Group’s request for an RDAP pilot program. Given T/T’s reliance on RDAP, we’ll want to stay synced up with developments in this area as they progress. Please expect a policy document for your review mid-September. We’ll schedule our next call then. In the meantime, please let me know of any questions. Brian, Thanks for the update. I’d like to call out a paragraph from the Implementation Plan you just shared. The sentence in the Background sections reads “The goal of the PDP was to determine how to best facilitate the entry of contact information into domain name registration data and directory services by non-English speakers and users of non-ASCII scripts.”. I believe this is not an accurate characterization of the PDP’s goal. The PDP’s charter was to determine two things: 1) whether it is desirable to translate or transliterate contact information and 2) who should decide who should bear the burden of such transformation. -Dennis From: <translationtransliterationirt-bounces@icann.org> on behalf of Brian Aitchison <brian.aitchison@icann.org> Date: Monday, August 28, 2017 at 4:06 PM To: "translationtransliterationirt@icann.org" <translationtransliterationirt@icann.org> Subject: [EXTERNAL] [Translationtransliterationirt] Update: Translation and Transliteration Implementation Dear T/T IRT, Thank you for your patience as we continue to draft and review the T/T policy document on our end. Thank you Dennis. I’ve updated the implementation plan to reflect this more accurate language.
