IDN growth - 9 million IDNs
The 2019 IDN World Report Shows 20% IDN Growth https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20191127005538/en/2019-IDN-World-Repo... Less than what I expected. Next year it should be more than 💯 percent growth. Worth a read. Thanks. AD -- Sent from my Android device with XGen Email.

Their data appears to be of very low quality. I just counted the IDNs in the .com zone, and found 941,000. I think that's less than there were last year.

concur. I just counted: - 930303 IDNs in mid-august (3 months ago) .com zone. - 922759 IDNs in yesterday’s .com zone. (while for the same period, the (total) .com zone increased by ~1%) obviously, this is only .com. YMMV Marc.

If I understand correctly, the report was comparing data from December 2017 to December 2018, so a different time period. The question is now whether we should expect the .com data reported by John, and that refer to 2019, indicate a negative trend that may extend to the whole market - although I might expect the IDN growth in China to continue. Somebody has more recent data about all the IDNs? Cheers, Roberto

Here is an excerpt from the report which gives food for thought for those involved in UA readiness. Despite the recent growth, the major challenge <https://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=https%3A%2F%2Fidnworldre...> to mass uptake of IDNs continues to be their poor usability <https://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fidnworldrep...> : - in email, - online user identifiers, - and even in browsers, applications and devices including Internet of Things. It's good to see these challenges laid out before us so that we can go into 2020 understanding the growing importance of what we are doing and how much effort needs to be put into this project. Hi all, The main users of IDN will be from Global South countries. The cost of owning a gTLD is really prohibitive for these countries. That could be one reason for the low growth of IDNs, apart from the technical hindrances. Actually, technically there is no hindrance, but it is the mindset. Many people are still not familiar with inputting in scripts other than English (applicable to India). Regards, Pavanaja From: UA-discuss <ua-discuss-bounces@icann.org> On Behalf Of Mark W.
