Dear Don,
It is to inform that on 26th January 2019 - CDAC (Center for Development of Advanced Computing) -GIST - An Organization of Ministry of Electronics & IT, Govt of India, has launched (Its a soft launch) Multilingual e-mail solution for supporting Indian Languages (https://वेबमेल.सीडैकजिस्ट..भारत/<https://वेबमेल.सीडैकजिस्ट.भारत/>)
Details are attached for your kind perusal. UASG efforts are one of the important factors to have such kind of products in the Indian Government set-up.
Main features:
1) A Unique IDN-EAI GIST mailing platform for Indian languages 2) Multilingual: Email Id itself in Indian Language. Easy and hassle-free typing in the Indian language. Spell checker and translation support 3) Multi-modal: Access from the devices of your choices. Access from the Email client of your choice 4) Accessible: Listen to your email. Easy and intuitive User Interface. Accessible features for the differently – abled 5) Secure: State of the art encryption two-step authentication. Robust linguistic policy Preventing identity theft.
I really like the second part here: "Robust linguistic policy Preventing identity theft.". Is the relevant information (e.g. what characters and combinations of characters are allowed or disallowed) available somewhere? If not, could it be made available somewhere? It would definitely also be useful for other operators who want to set up email addresses in Indian languages. It could also be useful for domain names, although that might need additional checks. One additional part that I'm somewhat worried about is what minority languages are covered. Minority languages often have additional needs, such as additional characters or additional character combinations. Regards, Martin. P.S.: Please feel free to forward this mail and/or to cross-post me on further discussions.
6) End to end e-mail solution 7) Brought to you by pioneers of the solution in India 8) Support Indian Languages 9) Disambiguation of confusing similar email ID by way of 10) Linguistic framework and policies 11) Facility to read aloud the mail content in Language of your choice 12) Robust Anti-spam algorithm
I hope this information is useful and may be circulated to the relevant forums.
