Anil: Respectfully, if less than 50% of existing UASG members have submitted their SOI, maybe it is a sign that the process of introducing the SOIs is lacking. In that case, another 15 days might not fix the problem. It might be better to go back and do the parts of the process which should have preceded the SOI mandate: 1. Explain the situation and the problems which require action. (For instance, if ICANN is demanding certain actions, say that. If trolls on UA-Discuss are a problem, say that.) 2. Propose the SOIs as a solution to the problem, and advocate for why they will be effective. 3. Listen to responses, especially critiques of the proposal, and improve the proposal based on responses. 4. Build a consensus among UASG members that the SOI mandate is the best solution, or at least that it is necessary if not "best". All of this should take place where the UASG members are accessible. That is, on the UA-Discuss list, and in working group meetings. (Some discussion has happened at ICANN in-person meetings, but only a few UASG members participate in those, so they do not provide enough coverage.) It seems to me that you as UASG Chair, along with the vice chairs and other administrators, are ideally placed to take leadership in correcting UASG's course in the process. I have just looked at the SOI because of this mail. (The SOI was one of the small things I put on the back burner and then forgot.) One of the sentences doesn't work out grammatically for me: "Your photo and all the information and except your email address will be published online." Should it be "Your photo and all the information except your email address will be published online."? Or something else? I also don't understand how the part after "USE OF PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGES AND RECORDINGS" relates to this SOI. The SOI includes a photo, but the text doesn't talk about the photo that may be submitted, it talks about photos taken at events. I guess it would be better to put that statement in the signup forms for the respective events. IANAL, but if the text about photography "can be posted in the public domain" applies to the photo submitted with the form, that would be strange. That text is there because third parties (simple attendees) might take photos at events and might put them in the public domain (please publishing putting a photo on the Web and putting it in the public domain are not the same). I also expected the SOI to at least contain, if not mainly consist of a part where I can actually state why I'm interested in this group (in my case, mainly as a coauthor of RFC 6068 (mailto: URIs), which I'm thinking about updating sooner or later). I'm a bit surprised that this is not the case, and that if anything, I'll have to squeeze it into "Additional Information". I'm not sure I'm currently subscribed to ua-discuss@icann.org. I can't remember having seen any mail from such a list. I'm not sure why I would need to be subscribed to that list, nor how much traffic or what kind of content that would involve. I submitted a very small version of my photo (something like 30x40 pixels). The main reason for this is that it's unclear whether the text "can be posted in the public domain" applies to this photo (or just to photos which are taken by people taking pictures at ICANN events). Regards, Martin.

IANAL, but if the text about photography "can be posted in the public domain" applies to the photo submitted with the form, that would be strange. That text is there because third parties (simple attendees) might take photos at events and might put them in the public domain (please publishing putting a photo on the Web and putting it in the public domain are not the same).
I also expected the SOI to at least contain, if not mainly consist of a part where I can actually state why I'm interested in this group (in my case, mainly as a coauthor of RFC 6068 (mailto: URIs), which I'm thinking about updating sooner or later). I'm a bit surprised that this is not the case, and that if anything, I'll have to squeeze it into "Additional Information".
I'm not sure I'm currently subscribed to ua-discuss@icann.org. I can't remember having seen any mail from such a list. I'm not sure why I would need to be subscribed to that list, nor how much traffic or what kind of content that would involve. I'm totally fine with being subscribed to this list (ua-eai) only.

Speaking as a UA enthusiast only: with postings like https://domainincite.com/29648-icann-79-anonymous-trolls-and-undercover-lawy... and comments like some I heard at the public meeting in Hamburg last year, the problem is now urgent. The trolls must go, now, one way or another. Slow explanation, advocacy and persuasion won’t do, there’s urgency now.
Although I work at ICANN, I haven’t attended any meetings about any of this and am happy to leave policy issues to my colleagues. I work with tech, not policy, I know nothing and do not speak for ICANN. But as an UA enthusiast, I know the date of the Public Forum in June, and I think we need a good story to tell in case there are ugly questions. The story needs to use a lot of past tense. Sorry about the 50%.

It’s not a giant surprise. Check out the ICANN pages, and I doubt there is any mention, anywhere, of SOIs outside of the Nominating Committee (people who want to run for offices). This is a relatively new thing and people are surprised. It’s also a trivial thing, so if we were able to communicate it well, most people would just do it.
