Gender Diversity & Participation Survey Report Published
Dear all, The Gender Diversity & Participation Survey report has been published: https://www.icann.org/news/announcement-2017-10-12-en Many thanks to all of you for your substantive contributions and guidance. Happy to answer any questions. Best, Ergys
Hi Ergys, Thanks for the great work on the report. I had three quick questions: - I am correct that in the visual the total percentage of people interviewed adds to 101% (1 +3 + 48 + 49)? - The language in the bottom right box means that women are more likely to care that caring/familial responsibilities impact than men/non-binary people? It is a bit hard to read from the current formulation. - Why was it opted to refer to women as females and men as males? Instead of just women and men? Hi Corinne, Thanks for your questions. 1. The numbers were rounded and we felt it important to show that *less* than 1% identified in some other way to ensure that all self-identification categories are captured. 2. Yes, correct, that is what it means. Females are more likely to care than males and those who identify with non-binary gender about familial responsibilities. 3. The report mirrors the language used in the survey. People were asked if they identify as male, female, prefer not to say or in some other way. Hope this is helpful. Dear Ergys About the process of preparing the questionnaire until the end result of this published report, there are still challenges faced everyday regarding Gender & Diversity participation in ICANN that go from simple things such as stating a dress code in an activity announcement (and rattling some) until counting the number of women which interact in spaces where ICANN sponsors. So I remember when the questionnaire was being built, a lot of what could generate cross section data was left out - concerns about getting too much personal data, managing the information etc. If you can, please note what are the paths forward after the publication of this research. Are there any actions ICANN is planning to improve equitable participation? Is there any follow-up survey to be implemented? What is the most important thing left out and what could be different? I know all of those are not easy questions but maybe this is time to start facing them. Thanks Renata
