Dear All, The follow-up WSIS+20 Informal Stakeholder Consultation Session for 29 July 2025 (10:00-13:00 EDT / 14:00-17:00 UTC) is now announced with a registration deadline of 23 July. This is a multistakeholder consultation with the participation of Member States and all other stakeholder groups together. The session will be on the Elements Paper, with specific focus on topics where feedback was requested. Many thanks Jen. Regarding the Elements Paper, I note that indigenous people are mentioned in Item 8 but there is no specific provision for full participation by this group in the WSIS process. There is a provision emphasizing participation in relation to developing countries but I think we all know that indigenous populations are generally underserved. In the U.S., for example, these populations are on reservations and struggling with issues as basic as lack of running water etc. How can written comment on the Elements Paper be submitted to modify Item 4 as shown below in bold? However, I think “communities” is a word that is too vague and leads to confusion about who we are talking about. It is used and over-used on the interent to describe a few people playing the same video game as it is used to describe an ancient tribe. Tijani, thanks for the feedback! We often assume Indigenous communities are captured under the term underserved. It's not so. It's better to differentiate and mention explicitly. Also, we have advanced countries with indigenous communities. However, Matthew agrees with my opinion but modified the word communities to people. We often assume Indigenous communities are captured under the term underserved. It's not so. It's better to differentiate and mention explicitly.
Also, we have advanced countries with indigenous communities. However, Matthew agrees with my opinion but modified the word communities to people. I believe this is to remove ambiguity of claims, and sticking to individuality.
Thus, "developing countries, underserved people, and indigenous people".

This has been an excellent pick up and discussion. Agree on the specific need to recognise Indigenous Peoples as they are the traditional custodians of land, seas and earth and will continue to have a disproportionate burden to advocate for recognition of the real world impacts on their wholistic ways of knowing, understanding, being, and doing that Internet Infrastructure imposes. This is good for everyone. I’ve been following along for a while and haven’t felt the need to add anything. However, I think “communities” is a word that is too vague and leads to confusion about who we are talking about. It is used and over-used on the interent to describe a few people playing the same video game as it is used to describe an ancient tribe.
I would suggest something like “ … the full participation of developing countires and all *under-represented peoples* …"

Many thanks Jen. Regarding the Elements Paper, I note that indigenous people are mentioned in Item 8 but there is no specific provision for full participation by this group in the WSIS process. There is a provision emphasizing participation in relation to developing countries but I think we all know that indigenous populations are generally underserved.
