Weighing in, the whole article struck me as breathlessly overwrought and seriously under-informed. The notion that failing to meet the September 30th deadline (oops, goal) dooms the effort is absurd. Taking the requisite time means that a well-considered transition and accountability plan can be put in place before the next President takes office in January 2017 , whoever he or she might be. While election year politics may create some turbulence, the Senate Commerce hearing evidenced that there is bipartisan interest in and concerns about ICANN’s transition but no present threat of obstructive legislation.
