Yes, I saw that too . especially since I know of no "drafts of reform proposals" that are in near-enough good shape to start canvassing opinion about. Many years ago, I was [along with some on this list] engaged in helping to support the International Forum on the White Paper. That process was owned by the community and was open and inclusive. Perhaps it will, at some point in the future, be appropriate for the community to self organize consultations -- open and inclusive -- on the draft proposals. I agree with Kavouss, however, that CCWG should not engage in the day to day operations of ICANN. I remain impressed and following closely, the work of this CCWG. Marilyn Cade Sent from my iPad

Hi Matthew - I reached out internally and this is not an ICANN plan. We are not clear about where this idea of the tour of capitals arose for the inclusion in this article, nor about the canvassing opinion. ICANN, by NTIA's request is the convener and facilitator of the transition development process. In that role, ICANN also performs outreach to develop awareness and understanding of the process and to encourage participation. Weighing in, the whole article struck me as breathlessly overwrought and seriously under-informed. The notion that failing to meet the September 30th deadline (oops, goal) dooms the effort is absurd. Taking the requisite time means that a well-considered transition and accountability plan can be put in place before the next President takes office in January 2017 , whoever he or she might be. While election year politics may create some turbulence, the Senate Commerce hearing evidenced that there is bipartisan interest in and concerns about ICANN’s transition but no present threat of obstructive legislation. No" vite fait mal fait" There are MANY people THAT they rush to make every think finished by September 2015 REGARDS Kavouss 2015-03-09 19:20 GMT+01:00 Phil Corwin <psc@vlaw-dc.com>:
Weighing in, the whole article struck me as breathlessly overwrought and seriously under-informed.
The notion that failing to meet the September 30th deadline (oops, goal) dooms the effort is absurd. Taking the requisite time means that a well-considered transition and accountability plan can be put in place before the next President takes office in January 2017 , whoever he or she might be.
While election year politics may create some turbulence, the Senate Commerce hearing evidenced that there is bipartisan interest in and concerns about ICANN’s transition but no present threat of obstructive legislation.

James,
Ooof. That is a pretty basic blunder. They could lose their political pundit's license for a mistake like that.

EurActiv is not the most reliable source for these kind of issues, they are not deeply involved, don't understand ICANN issues well and report primarily about rumors/things they hear ... EurActiv is a good source for EU-legislations but not really about global issues.

I agree with these comments about how unlikely it is that any IANA even *could* take place this year, given the significant amount of work that must be done before that can happen. It might be appropriate for the community to come up with its own timeline for how this work can be expected to happen that is realistic.
