Actually I am very disappointed in how this issue has become a storm in a teacup and I have to wonder why certain members of AFRALO should be so defensive. As the ALAC Chair, as you all know, I cast an eye over as many activities of the RALOs and Working Groups within At-Large as I can and participate often in At-Large and RALO meetings when I can, as part of my role of ensuring that things are ticking over as they should - checking on organisational effectiveness and maintaining the brief of the At-Large Review Implementation. In hindsight I regret the timing in which I made my comment, but it was in relation to something I observed, and commented in what I felt was a lighthearted and non-threatening way. Considering the comments that have been made to the Chair of the ALAC, I wonder who should feel more insulted and disrespected. Thankfully, I took heart from the comment from Nkem Nweke - that the intent of my original comment was indeed recognised. Best of luck for your nominations and elections. Dear Maureen and Cheryl, I have lots of respect for both of you for the wonderful job you have been doing in ICANN however I find it very disrespectful, and insulting to this community that you are trying to interfere in something as sensitive as an election. All over the world, it is never acceptable to do this. It is acceptable for you to be part of the mailing list but for God's sake elections are sensitive issues and internal affairs of the community. What both of you have done is the same thing a lot of people from Russia were deported for from the US and we all know what has been going on. My example here is just to let you understand the gravity of what you are doing. I do not believe anyone from this community would be allowed to do same in your own RALO but you think it is acceptable to do this in AFRALO cos we are Africans (as usual). I believe as a community we need to address this infringement and I would suggest (and passionately take it up if appointed by this community) to take this up with Empowered community. This is not acceptable in any way Even if Mohammed has his fact wrong I think Cheryl whom I look up too has gone beyond what I can swallow by disrespecting an entire community by trying to defend her beloved 'daughter'
Going Forward I seek the permission of the leadership of AFRALO to take this to the Empowered community. Thank You Abdulkarim

True, because APRALO has 4 leaders including 2 vice chairs, its a good setup to ensure the diversity.
As AfRALO currently has 3 leaders positions which accommodates both gender/regional diversity, In the future if AfRALO leaders considered expanding the leaders positions this can bring further extra diversity as well.
Kind Regards, Mohamed

Mohamed, for the record the APRALO Leadership team is Both Gender balanced and sub regionally diverse by design.

AfRALO is the only RALO that currently has 2 female leaders currently, regardless of the current elections result as AfRALO we have and care about gender diversity beside our own African diversity as well.
@Daniel : any RALO nomination/election is RALO process not an ALAC process, you can try and intervene in APRALO, NARALO, LACROL or EURALO process and advice them about their nominations.
Kind Regards, Mohamed AfRALO chair

Thanks Maureen for the headup.
@Mohammed. This is just a mild remark and AFRALO election is also ALAC business
