Thanks Nick, At least a great effort may be required - not only for AtLarge people, but for ALL potential participants - to outreach, help them participate, practical supports etc - given the adverse situation - and to the local host of India - who may likely be not too familiar with "Chiense" new year. It is NOT really "chinese" per se, but more of South-East Asian. I am concerned the delay of invitation letter from Indian host. Now Western Christmas season is coming... things are slowing down. I had my own experience of announcing fellowsihp program at the end of November, for mid-Janauary int'l meeting in Tokyo, to call for application, evaluate them, from almost ALL Asia Pacific countries and economies, arrange visas and send tickets, mostly to the people in LDCs such as Cambodia, Bangladesh, Solomon Islands etc, where Visa to Japan may take months... We were lucky since the host was our government, the Min of foreign affairs sent special telegram to all consulate offices to give fast track. Still, I lost all of my personal holidays from Christmas and New year's days, to work on the process logisiticall - that was for WSIS Tokyo regional meeting in 2003. AND that was outside Chinese New Year which, as Hong wrote, is perhaps more signigicant than Christmas. So, please flag as much as possible to ICANN staff, travel agent and Indian host and the outside community. izumi 2007/12/6, Nick Ashton-Hart <nick.ashton-hart@icann.org>:
I will most definitely pass along your views on this point (in fact, I already have...) On 6 Dec 2007, at 04:52, Cheryl Langdon-Orr wrote:

What Kuo-wei said is very true. ICANN's Asian meeting should take into account the Asian tradition and culture. For many East-Asia and South-East-Asia Countries, Lunar New Year is as important as, if not more important than, Christmas. If it is totally inconceivable for ICANN to arrange a meeting overlapping with Christmas, it must be very culturally unthoughtful to make the meeting clashing with the Lunar New Year.

Thanks for your information. As you might know, Feb. 7 is Chinese New Year. The holiday is from 2/6~11. I will try to find out who can join the meeting.
Oh no, I didn't realize the Chinese New Year crashes with ICANN meeting. This may impose travel restrictions, too, unless we book the flight early enough.
For those who are outside Asia, Chinese New Year is equal to or perhaps bigger than the Christmas, many overseas Chinese people visit their home or family re-union across the region and beyond.
(The Japanese new year is same as the calender year, and many also go to overseas for holiday tour, but most of the family re-union take place within the country unlike Chinese).

Thanks.

It has been suggested that APRALO hold its General Assembly on Saturday February 9th 2008 to allow the ALAC and Secretariats to meet on the 10th.
ICANN will arrange 1 delegate per ALS to attend the meeting. As such, I would like your comments on whether this would suit you, as it does mean arriving a bit earlier than you normally would - probably on the 7th or 8th, depending on your point of origin and flight availability.
The other option is to hold the GA on Monday 11th, but this has some potential conflict with another ALAC meeting.
I would appreciate your comments by Friday 7th December to enable the planning and logistics to proceed in a timely manner.
