They key message I received from most of the APRALO members in Mexico is the need for APRALO to be multilingual, after all, English is the minority language in the AP region.. I must stress that we do not have to rely on funding to begin to be a multilingual organsiation. It is our responsibility to take the initiative to begin. As a result of this, I want to encourage you to all use your own language in emails if that is what you are more comfortable with, but only if we are able to translate it in Bablefish or similar. Lets at least trail it out while traffic is low and consider who we represent and the message we will give potential ALS's. Secondly, as a direct result of the feedback received that many organisations will not join APRALO as we are English language eccentric, we will be producing some APRALO introduction videos in various languages with Mahmoud doing an Arabic version, ISOC HK a Chinese version and I hope to contact others to volunteer for various other translations such as Japanese, Hindi etc. We are also working on a larger strategy for multilingualism and have Izumi (Japan), Nirmol (India) and Sophie (Taiwan) working on a letter in regards to multilingualism. May I also encourage you to explore greeting each other in the other person s local language as a courtesy?. I have seen this with some members already. It will be a powerful message to the outside of APRALO and a courtesy that is often appreciated in some cultures. I look forward to our next meeting at the end of this month and welcome any feedback prior to then. We did have a Chair/Vice Chair meeting tonight and I hope the minutes will be sent out soon from our Secretariat. Karaitiana Taiuru APRALO Chairperson

We can implement the multilingual email interface for APRALO if you wish - note the language pairs which can be found in the relevant announcement on atlarge.icann.org. Re: [APAC-Discuss] MultilingualismThanks Nick, could you please have the AP languages implemented. It has been suggested that the application forms to become a RALO are available in multiple languages. What is the best way to achieve this - we seek volunteers to translate the forms into languages that ICANN do not have immediate resources for ?. Or will this cause some legal issues with the information we are requesting being interpreted etc etc ?. Dear colleagues, After several issues about cultural/religious differences in APRALO I would like to address it so we can as a united group work together in our diverse cultural, religious and linguist group. I am also involved with another AP group which are facing the same issues, so we are not alone. We are such a diverse organisation that people will and have been offended in the past by behaviour of our members as what is acceptable in one culture is not in another. I know several of you have had recent issues and felt you could not speak to anyone within APRALO. I hope to talk to each ALS individually about any concerns and cultural practices that we as APRALO should observe. It might be that we all need to make some small compromises - but we are a team that represent our region, so a few small compromises is hopefully not too much to ask. I also would like to make sure that you all feel comfortable talking to me in private if you have any issues with APRALO, members, staff, officers, procedures etc. I will treat any issues with the strictest confidence and will do my upmost best to address any issues. Likewise, if you have an issue with me, I am sure either one of our Vice Chairs, Cheryl or the staff would be happy to discuss the issue with you in the strictest confidence and also seek to address the issue. I am certain that by having a more culturally and linguistically aware RALO we can also leverage this to gain more ALS's to join. I welcome any feedback and critique. In the meantime we are working on the Travel Policy feedback for your approval. I hope that will be out in the next few days. Regards, Karaitiana Taiuru

Dear team, Quick updates in relation to a number of your questions. I did not have all the answers yesterday i am afraid. 1. Those of you who gave me your details to be considered for the IGF MAG appointments. The decision has yet to be made. I have asked to be notified when a decision is made. If you put your name forward and hear back before any announcements to the list, please inform us. 2. There was some discussion regarding wether we would meet in Sydney for a GA. ICANN are not funding such a meeting as we just met in Mexico. I will advise re Seoul for a GA. 3. Those of you who want to trial Skype out for its reliability to use a conference tool, could you please email me this week and we will organise an ad hoc voice meeting. If enough participants and the trial is successful we can schedule a Skype conference call for APRALO. Again, if you have any issues or concerns please contact me. Thanks team., Karaitiana Taiuru

Dear Chair and others,
1. Those of you who gave me your details to be considered for the IGF MAG appointments. The decision has yet to be made. I have asked to be notified when a decision is made. If you put your name forward and hear back before any announcements to the list, please inform us.
Thanks for bringing this up again. I don't remember we had any formal call for nomination(s) on the list or I might have missed the communication.
2. There was some discussion regarding wether we would meet in Sydney for a GA. ICANN are not funding such a meeting as we just met in Mexico. I will advise re Seoul for a GA.
I agree. Seoul would be a more feasible option.
3. Those of you who want to trial Skype out for its reliability to use a conference tool, could you please email me this week and we will organise an ad hoc voice meeting. If enough participants and the trial is successful we can schedule a Skype conference call for APRALO.
I would prefer traditional phone calls. Our monthly call is scheduled at 5UTC, when I most probably teach on the campus and don't have Internet access. Hong
