Title: Human right and ICANN - continuing the conversation Description: There is a growing recognition in parts of the community that some of ICANN’s policies and other actions may have implications for human rights like freedom of expression and the right to privacy. While ICANN is not the place to negotiate over such rights, it would be advisable on political and other grounds to assess whether our work is fully consistent with internationally agreed human rights laws and policies, and to identify possible methods for addressing any incompatibilities. To date, these issues have been discussed on a case by case basis. This cross-community workshop will consider options for starting a process that could address them in a more systemic manner. Tentative agenda: 1. Introductions by facilitator (Niels ten Oever) - 5 minutes 2. Summary of past discussion (Marilia Maciel) - 10 minutes 3. Short introduction to human rights and its relevance + Q&A (Joy Liddicoat) - 20 minutes 4. Presentation of case study on ICANN and human rights + Q&A (Monika Zalnieriute) 30 minutes 5. Discussion on commencement of a process for a more systemic approach to human rights and ICANN (45 minutes) 6. Summary (10 minutes) 7. Conclusion. (5 minutes) I just made this up (and haven't asked people if they are up for it, even though I think so), so happy to discuss.

Monday afternoon is risky because it might overlap with ICANN accountability discussions, updates on new gTLDs, etc.
Wednesday morning is risky because of the CCWG on Internet Governance. But since the latter is from 8:30 - 9:45, if we start at 9:30, we should be OK with a slow start. Will you keep the same time for Singapore for this workshop Bill ?
If so, I'd go for Wednesday morning.

Considering the meeting will always clash with something else, a 3-hour session could be strategic to allow people to join us at some moment. We could even explicitly divide the session in "part 1" and "part 2", so people that could come (although late) do not feel they missed too much and still feel encouraged to attend. Of course, this is besides the fact that we do have a lot of substantive topics to discuss. I understand Rafik´s point, but maybe we should try to push for the three hours.
Rafik, do you suggest we wait to book the room, so we coordinate with other sessions being scheduled? Isn´t it dangerous in terms of securing a room for us? I think it is better to have it scheduled as soon as possible. If something substantial changes on the agenda we re-evaluate.

it is possible to program for Monday afternoon. They frown upon it because that takes people out of the main room but the ALAC and other WGs have staged meetings on Monday afternoon with little interference. One of the problems is that by killing Fridays the week has become shorter and with the Thursday circus Thursday is now dead. With Monday risking being filled by the circus too we have Tuesday which is impossible due to Constituency day. But guess what, I'm now told some parts of Constituency day might happen on Wednesday morning too. So Wednesday afternoon? Oh now, that's GNSO wrap up. <sigh>

That's excellent. I think we agreed on a session on Wednesday afternoon, as per Bills proposal. I think two hours would suffice. Three hours seems a but like a an overkill (even though I know we could easily fill it).
