James, thanks for sharing this, BUT, actually I challenge the use of the term" many members of the community", without facts. In fact, SMEs from business users found this report both interesting and useful, to the point that the BC@ICANN featured the report in our Newsletter. If you have a list of "many members of the community" who object, do share that with me, and I am happy to meet with them, and you at ICANN60 in a small discussion about why such studies are so useful, sub region by sub region, or regionally and how this helps to inform the larger environment that ICANN must exist within. I am very happy to meet with you and any other who decry such useful reports while we are there. So, I look forward to meeting with the many members of the community who decry having factual information. For me, I may have even authored the statement: Facts are our Friends. Some may not like the facts, or even want to debate them, but let's start always with an open mind to how we learn from facts. For me, I think the report is great and I am promoting the idea of a similar report from the CASA countries. I think this study works as an example on the debated issue of the range of projects that AP fund could support. This study, doesn't support directly ICANN core mission on DNS but it handles the broader digital economy which I believe if is away with some margin from ICANN core mission. An issue to think about.
