Dr. Yao, You are right in the sense that you’re weighing in too late, for almost a year. You are also right that you and other experts may object the current version of the CGP statement, any specific suggestion to the wording or spelling is welcomed. All GPs are task forces set up by ICANN to address root label generation rules, that CGP ONLY dispose the issues related with repertoire, variants and visual similarities. From that perspective, CGP RZ-LGR for TLD , much like CDNC rule set for SLD, are both applicable to single character label as well as multiple characters label. If you have different opinion, you also have the right to formally suggest CGP’s task should expand to semantic and other registration policy. Or you may suggest why single character label should NOT follow the RZ-LGR. As a team, CGP, should NOT, and has NOT got involved in registration policy discussions on single character issue. As an individual, every CGP member does has right to express his opinion on registration policy. Therefore, you can raise your objection in personal capacity to this matter at suitable occasions like ccNSO or GAC, rather than hanging on to CGP. My understanding is that some CGP experts do not support allocation of the single character TLD. It is not clear who or how many experts from the CGP community strongly support the single character TLD. SSAC proposed the "conservative" method Best Regards Jiankang Yao [ChineseGP] A Declaration on the Proposed Considerations for the Application of Han Script Single-Character IDN Generic Top-Level Domains Hi all Following the publication of 'Proposed Considerations for the Application of Han Script Single Character IDN Generic Top-Level Domains' by ICANN, many community members reached out to CGP experts to express concerns regarding the application and delegation of single-character Chinese TLD. Consequently, I believe clarification is necessary to ensure the community has a clearer understanding of CGP's stance: - - - - - - - - - - In the “Proposal for a Chinese Script Root Zone LGR”, CGP established rule set for Repertoire, Variants Characters, Visually Identical Characters and Variant Labels. CGP LGR addressed the issue of variant label generation for variant characters and visually identical characters. However, the semantic similarity issues have never been within the scope of our work. CGP suggested that ICANN delegate all-simplified, all-traditional, and originally applied-for labels, while blocking redundant all-simplified or all-traditional labels, and either blocking or allocating visually similar labels according to the Proposal. The proposed LGR makes no distinction between single-character labels and multiple-character Chinese labels. We hold the view that CGP is not in the position to propose rules regarding allocation of single-character TLD other than the label generation rule set as described above. Therefore, any concerns related to the confusion risks introduced by semantic ambiguity in single-character labels should be addressed by ICANN through alternative mechanisms. - - - - - - - - - - Please feel free to provide your comments and feedback. Should the response be favorable, CGP will proceed to submit our declaration to ICANN.
