I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry - it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. I am writing to let you know I oppose the rate increases for .com domains proposed by ICANN. I am a freelance writer, making my entire living by bringing in clients through my web presence. I make a modest living, under $50k per year. I own two domains—one for my freelance work, and one for my authorial work. My business has no budget; I am the business. A regular hike in .com domains will affect my ability to pay my bills, and might force me to cancel my domains, making me lose clients and income. Most of my clients are web-based as well, and this will hit their bottom lines, also affecting my income. ICANN is meant to encourage competition, but it has become a monopoly. Dear Madame or Sir, I understand your amendment will hurt my pocket book, so please do not make my use of the internet more expensive. I trust you to do everything in your conscience to instead LOWER the cost of communicating data along the web. When you fly to Singapore to sign a deal, you walk from hotel to office building, reading the street signs at each corner so as not to get lost. Do you pay the people of Singapore a tax to orient yourself to YOUR personal place? Free communication! The taxpayers have installed those tools at their expense so that YOU can do your work freely. COMMON sense. Like the air you breath for which I do not charge you service fees, free the registrar-ISP cartel from having to see where we are all going about our way. I am against this style of price increase. This just raises the prices indefinitely forcing small websites to give up their domains with the constant price increases and raising the barrier to entry.

Sounds like a major conflict of interest, arrived at thru secret meetings ( = nefarious af) The impact on small business owners and artists will be devastatingly nasty... never mind for everyone else. Please reconsider taking actions that appear blatantly unscrupulous. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should... the world is effed enough already, do you really wanna make that worse for something as fleeting as cash? I am opposed to the agreement you worked out with Verisign that will increase .com prices over the next decade or more. I work with a small not-for-profit. We purchase the .com version of our address so we will not have another business camped out next to our .org site offering something that would be an issue for our organization. To have to pay significantly more for that is not easy for us. Please rethink this offer so we and other small businesses like ours won’t face budget crunches just to maintain the integrity of their domain names. Terry S. Davis Sent from my iPhone
