Greetings, My name is Roy Skeen and I am a business owner in Baltimore, MD with a .com website for my construction services. Keeping .com access affordable has allowed me a space in the global marketplace in a way that would not be possible if the price increases every year for the next 8 of 10 years. We would ask that you: 1. Make all funds and contracts to Verisign transparent and public, as they are serving a public good. 2. Restrict price increases per year and with the number of years. As a business owner, we need to be able to price these expectations into our prices. 3. Please reconsider this proposed deal for the good of all businesses, rather than just one. The fact that this "agreement" was made in secret, without proper consultation is cause for great concern, aside from the abhorrent contents. I for one am not in agreement, as are most of those affected. This agreement needs to be shredded, and the process restarted in a transparent manner, with proper consultation. Dear ICANN, As an entrepreneur and owner of several .com domains I was very disappointed to hear that ICANN has secretly agreed to a contract change which could see prices rising by as much as 70% over the next decade. This will stifle the earliest and rawest kind of start-up innovation which has made the internet the dynamic and vibrant place it is today. By placing barriers to poorer and disadvantaged people from staking claim to the domain names they feel represent their new idea or start-up business is not in anybody’s long term interests, including ICANN’s. Furthermore the lack of transparency regarding what the proceeds of any funds from Verisign will be used for is deeply worrying and smacks of poor integrity or outright corruption. As a non-profit, your selected leaders have an obligation to share what the plans are for the $20 million agreement with Verizon. It appears no thought was given to transparency with the public. This change is wrong. The domain space is undergoing changes, and I believe a policy that increases prices with inflation is fair. But why not add a fee to the resale of domain names, not their original purpose? Don’t discourage the growth of the market, discourage domain squatters.
