I have participated in arguments for and against the intended price hike (amendment) for the .com domain by ICANN.org through VERISIGN Inco. and found both sides of the argument very interesting. I know that anyone who is in business has profit as the ultimate goal. However, if that profit is to be achieved at the detriment of those who patronize one's business, then that ultimate goal is either ill-intended or not well thought of. My argument over this issue has remained that the price hike is good if only it is for the developed countries (super-powers) and the grade A companies in those countries. If it is uniformly applied, what happens to the third world countries who use the internet and the .com domain for their businesses. Unless this price hike is intended to push the third world countries out of the internet world system, I don't see how this will benefit them. I therefore don't support it as it will turn out to be an evil wind that blows no one any good. Chidi Sam

I have registered and own a number of .com domains and other domains for both business and personal use. I am against the increase in price of .com domains. I believe that the increase in price will create a higher barrier to entry for the average person who would want to buy a domain name for their business or for personal use. I hope that you acknowledge the sentiment of both my comment and those left before mine and reconsider this decision in spite of it’s financial benefits to yourselves. Hello, I am writing to voice my opposition to Proposed Amendment 3. Despite there clearly being potential financial gains to be had by raising the registration fee on .com domains, the global DNS registration system should be run primarily as a public concern. The only entities that stand to benefit from the proposed arrangement are verisign itself, at the expense of the public. While price hikes such as this likely won't mean much to the larger business concerns that buy in bulk, it will impact the millions of small, independent businesses and developers that rely on the system as is to make their livelihood. At worst, this could prove yet another point of pressure that convinces a small business to make their online presence exclusively in the Facebook walled garden and eschew the web itself. The web, and global DNS, were envisioned to be run for the public good, and they SHOULD be run for the public good. Deals such as this are an abdication of that mandate; short sighted profit chasing at the expense of all else. Please do not adopt this proposal. - Marcus

Down with ICANN!!! ICANN should change their domain to ICANN.com as you have become a for profit commercial company, selling away all the interests of public to a private company. You are destroying the .com internet by making it unaffordable to the people from developing nations. Sorry to say, but ICANN and Verisign need to be banned to do any business related to .com and internet. Both need to be fined heavily for price fixing act. Thankyou Ajay
