I find the upcoming changes in the new deal between Verisign and ICANN troubling. Decisions like this, which will affect millions of internet users, should not be made behind closed doors, with little transparency to or regard for the public. If the proposed changes are approved, I will give up my .com domain names in favor of other TLDs, and will advocate my clients do the same.

Until there's a valid explanation for the price increase, I can only assume you're raising prices simply because you can. While that may be the fashion these days among the powerful and wealthy, there's no reason this can't be a simple commodity with commodity pricing. Break this silence. Explain your decision for these secretive price increases--and listen to the domain owners and consumers. There are many recently new TLDs we've been invited to use and launch. To whom it may concern, I invest in domain names as a business and I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest; this price increase cannot be said to be in the public interest and no one with ICANN has explained how it could be interpreted as such. I am opposed to this amendment. I have had my domain since 1997 and I learned early on that Verisign is a horrible company that I never want to deal with again. Do not do anything to help them. I am a registrant of multiple domain names (including several .COMs), and I am writing to voice my strong opposition to the proposed price increases for .COM domains as outlined in Amendment 3. No case is made in the Amendment for why the price increase is justified (beyond noting that there hasn't been one since 2012). However, given that over 144 million .COM domains were registered just last quarter (https://blog.verisign.com/domain-names/verisign-q3-2019-domain-name-industr…) coupled with the ever-decreasing costs of hardware and storage, I believe that the current rate of $7.85 / year / domain is already far more than should be necessary. If Verisign feels that they can't afford to manage said registry at the current price, then I would suggest that they be replaced with a company or organization that can. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the interest of the public, not Verisign. Thank you for your time. - Eric Woodward
