A fixed price at $7.85 benefits the marketplace. It provides stability and certainty to smaller actors, whose money makes up a substantial portion of the market. It benefits larger actors as their finances are also more predictable, though I dislike squatters (one example of large actors, not the only). This won't remove squatters - they'll just pass the costs along to those they rip off. It possibly might dehost many sites though, which concerns me deeply. I've run skylords.com now since 2004 or so, and it's been online even longer. I host it as a passion project, and have very little money to put into it. Increasing costs could force me to delist, allowing a squatter to claim the domain. I got tons of purchase offers a decade ago, and I don't doubt a squatter would see the value in it, since I get misdirected email from various similarly named organizations. Increased technology should demonstrate reduced costs constantly, even in the face of inflation. Further - it is important to have a stable DNS root. Lack of public confidence in ICANN is likely to lead to DNS fragmentation as alternate roots proliferate once again. Eventually, ICANN could lose control of the DNS should public confidence be shaken too far. I feel this change is unnecessary and dangerous, and the means by which it was negotiated seem extremely questionable, shaking my and public confidence. I believe it would be wise of ICANN to try to live within a small budget instead of increasing their reach - or lining their pockets. Thank you. -- Iiridayn

[Comments-com-amendment-3-03jan20] I find the upcoming changes in the new deal between Verisign and ICANN are wrong and monopolistic. Verisign should not be allowed to increase charges for .COM domains as it wishes. The current prices are already high and by allowing further increase will restrict millions of user from accessing the .COM domain. This is unethical and to me should be now investigated by the government.

As single mother I have worked very hard to help others in the community through starting Healing Hearts Foundation Inc.com. We feed the homeless care for Widows and single mothers who have no one to assist with needs that arise. There was a time when people cared if someone was low on money or food but our society has forgotten humanity. Most of the money that we have used has come of our own pockets as we reached out and fed 100 hungry people for Thanksgiving 2019. Many that joined me were so touched by the many people that were so happy to get a home cooked meal that I was asked to feed people again for Christmas 2019. People came together and fed 150 as well as received cloths to be warm during the cold days that were occurring. So I am asking please do not raise the cost! These changes that you are attempting to make will make it difficult for us to help the 20,000 homeless that are on the streets of Arizona. We are praying and doing our best to network with other organizations to make a difference in the community by having compassion on the less fortunate. As prices for food, rents and gas climb to inhumane levels these are simply basic needs that we are doing our best to help make a difference by creating employment be it through networking with other business or food banks. To whom this may concern, I read the amendment to allow for increase in prices which were made stagnate to make the internet more affordable for everyone. Put internet use for users above profit margins and make internet safe and affordable for all without the price hikes thanks. Regards, Liz

Hello, This email is to inform you of my opposition to amendment 3 with regards to the increased cost of wholesale .com domain names (herein “domain names”. I believe that an increase to the cost of domain names on the wholesale side, will lead to an increase in price for customers, which will lead to a much less free and unique internet experience. This can also become a slippery slope where pricing increases astronomically over decades. Slowly this can lead to the weening out those who cannot afford the inflated costs. This can lead to a less free internet. Freedom of speech can be curbed. And small businesses my not be able to succeed or maintain a web presence. Keep the internet a free environment for everyone. Hi, I am a professional software developer. I have spent most of my career working for nonprofits and small businesses. I am troubled by the pricing amendments in your new agreement with Verisign. The annual cost for .COM domain registrants is currently within reach for individuals, which is essential for the health and democracy of the Internet. With Amendment 3, Verisign will be able to price out individuals. This will have a direct and immediate negative impact on Internet users. Earlier this month, I was forced to let a project expire due to an unexpected price increase. I was running the project for a small community completely out of my own pocket. I poured dozens of hours into the project and community. The domain, prompts.club, increased in cost between 2019 and 2020 from ~$10 / year to ~$450 / year. I was forced to let the project die. I realize that .club is under different ownership, but I hope you can see the relevance. The changes in pricing model proposed in Amendment 3 will negatively affect artists, independent developers, small businesses, and people using the Internet for anything other than profit generation. It will stifle creativity and access across the Internet. I imagine you're getting a flood of similar letters right now. Please consider the input of Internet users in this huge decision. I don't know why this community entrusted a private company to manage this important service, but regardless this is an absolute tragedy I have to alerted about changes to my bottom line so your corporation can make a quick buck. Reverse your course of action ICANN
