To whom it may concern, I am opposed to the price increase on .com domains. Having a .com allows website owners to get visitors to their sites more easily. Making .coms a premium extension will create an unbalanced lanscape where smaller buisnesses and projects will be unable to compete at the same level as bigger companies and projects thus creating digital classes. The internet is the greatest thing that has allowed small and medium businesses to thrive. I urge you to please take this into consideration. Thank you

Hi, Namecheap.com tells me that you are looking to raise domain renewal rates, possibly by 70% or more over the next ten years. They also tell me that Verisign agreed to pay you $20 million dollars so that they could raise prices as they desire. Something smells here I wonder if president Trump could do anything about this? We have important information to share with you that will affect the price of your .COM domains. What's happening? Last month, ICANN, the organization that oversees domain names, announced significant changes to the contract it has with Verisign, Inc. who operate the .COM top-level-domain (TLD). ICANN made these changes in secret, without consulting or incorporating feedback from the ICANN community or Internet users. Although ICANN has a history of making similar deals behind closed doors, and also of ignoring unified opposition against such action, we are focused on leading the fight against price increases that will harm our customers (and the Internet as a whole). This is a crucial time to raise our voices given that .COM domains make up 40% of all registered domain names online. What does this change mean? Wholesale registries charge Namecheap a set fee per domain name per year. According to this new agreement, Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 years, and the increases dont stop there. This will mean that .COM wholesale domain prices can grow by more than 70% over and above current prices over the next decade. The contract also allows for other price increases, which could drive prices up further, ultimately making .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody. Why is ICANN doing this? Alongside these contract changes, Verisign agreed to pay ICANN an additional $20 million dollars over five years to support ICANN's domain name system initiatives, without any clarity about how ICANN will spend the money, or who will ensure that the funds are properly spent on domain infrastructure. So, what can you do to help? These changes will have significant impact on the Internet for years to come, and only ICANN and Verisign have participated in this decision. I don't think anyone is opposed to the cost going up if it is necessary. Could you please explain what the cost increase is for and what it will go towards? If even a portion is being pocketed as profit, that is absurd and unjust. I thought the internet was supposed to be about spreading information and knowledge, not trying to get a quick buck. A domain name is required for meaningfully publishing content online. The barrier to registering a domain name is already high... it requires a credit card, which is difficult or impossible to get for some. Raising the price of a domain makes it even more difficult for the impoverished to participate online. As someone who has been personally affected by this in the past, I'm frustrated that you would propose raising fees. ICANN should reject VeriSign's proposal. Additionally, ICANN should consider providing one free personal domain registration to anyone who wants it, as a way to enable more people to publish online.

ICANN does not own the internet. ICANN should be accountable to users, registrars and domain owners as well as the public at large. I object to Proposed Amendment 3 on the grounds that it has not been independently audited, provides no accountability for funds collected, nor does it provide a means to ensure costs to domain owners will not rise substantially and could not rise further through the use of loopholes in the proposal. Deals made in secret almost never benefit the public at large. Deals made at arms length and without undue influence and which have been vetted by independent parties are most likely to be fair and balanced. This proposal must be re-routed through a proper auditing process. In case it is not clear by my message, I thoroughly object to this proposed amendment and the process by which it has been made. Hello, What do you need the money for? Has running a root DNS server gotten more expensive? No, it's actually less expensive. Publish your financials publicly if you think you need more money. I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. Cheers, Weston McNamee
