As an entrepreneur and avid user of the internet I protest the deal brokered behind closed doors to increase the prices of .COM over the next decade. The barrier to entry is high enough, don’t make deals to allow for the inflation of prices on the core TLD. I am writing to inform you that I am not in favor of the new proposed price increase of the .com domains. This increase will hurt millions of small businesses. This price increase would only benefit big corporations and those who can afford to purchase them for corrupt purposes, which will lead to additional problems and the safety of the public internet.

I feel this proposed fee hike for .com domain price increases violates the public interest and serves only Verisign. I can see why Verisign is concerned for profit margins considering they had overcharged for YEARS with inflated certificate signing and stifled public protections for privacy and security innovations. Conservatively I personally may have as little as 15-20 domains at any given time. Many friends and associates have many more. 30 to 50% of those domains are .com. Only through dedicated application, focus, testing and research can worthy domains be cultivated and monetized. A lot of time and energy goes into making a domain and business idea profitable. It is a chaotic process and there are no crystal balls. There are a lot of prevalent practices that we struggle with. But to hike domain fees only serves to kill innovation and prevent digital entrepreneurs like myself and others like my associates from successfully participating. All those costs add up real quick and provide a very real barrier to entry. We are only beginning to enter the era of the global digital entrepreneur. We need to be making it easier not harder. If Verisign can't find ways to value-add rather than take advantage of people - they deserve to file Chapter 11. STOP gouging consumers and the people who are working hard every day to make innovation happen!

Many small companies, small organizations and individuals own .com domains, not just large corporations. Allowing pretty much unfettered price increases for .com domains is going to negatively impact these groups, especially individuals. Needing to increase the cost to support additional and/or updated infrastructure required to manage the.com TLD seems reasonable but giving a for profit third party company the ability to raise the price for 8 years of a 10 year period is ridiculous. Please reconsider the structure of this agreement and limit the aggregate cost increases to something concrete and fair like no more than a 100% price increase spread incrementally over the course of a 10 year period. It is regrettable to hear that an organization so large is willing to risk losing it's broad range of customers because it did not explain how price increases would be carefully monitored and wisely spent. I would like to point out that world-wide organizations reliant on technology, which thought that they were too important to ever lose their customers did indeed die in an instant. Landline phones, vinyl records, cassette tapes, Pan Am, DeLorean: They all thought the world's eyes and investment would stay with them but they ended up with zero customers. I myself have moved away from .COM domains, as of today I only own two out of my previous dozens. Why, have I moved away from .COM: Your future customer's customers aren't interested in ancient technology. And typing in ".com" is ancient.

Dear ICANN, Please keep prices where they are for these domains to make it as accessible as possible for the rest of the world. Domains are what allow individuals to create their passion projects, have a presence online, and shape their future. Keeping prices low understandably will not be in favor of your bottom line, but is that what you're waking up every day for? The cause you're standing for, that inspires you to get out of bed every morning, is ultimately to give the people the ability to work on their dreams and create a better world for us all. I am a domain owner and I oppose the increase in .com price. If ICANN is going to relinquish it's role in pricing oversite, the management of .com should be bid out and not assigned to a single entity with no competitive pricing. In addition, the $20m kickback to fund undisclosed ICANN programs establish a poor practice of "pay to play" when dealing with ICANN. ICANN should be working in a transparent manner in the public interest and not looking to fund itself while allowing a private company to monopolize the registration process and prices.
