Dear ICANN, Please do not allow Verisign, Inc. to increase the price of .com domains. This will affect many of us who do not have limited resources and run our businesses and other initiatives from only the internet. I am a domainer (I invest in domain names as a business). I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. Top-level domains are a necessary feature of the Internet that was devised to make life easier for users, not to create a business out of it. The practice of charging form registries can be accepted, as long as it is meant to cover the costs of the infrastructure. ICANN was kept in charge of it, as a bona fide institution that is meant to keep the Internet going. Turning the registry business into a for-profit monopoly that goes far beyond the mandate to keep the infrastructure going and recouping the costs is a complete subversion of the original spirit of the Internet. If ICANN turns into a money-making machine or allows other to do that, taking advantage of its monopoly power, it will invite the creation of alternatives to the current model, and either subvert the Internet as we know it, or put it into the hands of other institutions, creating future uncertainty. So, please stick to your original mandate and stop thinking of the TLD as your own personal piggy bank. Best regards, Jose Luis Malaquias

The idea that increasing the dot com registration costs on a near yearly basis is ridiculous. The undermining going on here, as a way to probably make up for the fact that dot com registrations are slowing is purely evil. The fact is that everything has its limits and this definitely will just give another TLD the opportunity to grow. As the costs become obscene, people will just stop using the dot com TLD and rebrand elsewhere. I personally object to this idea, and it will limit my ability to use the dot com TDL, and I will look for other more reasonably priced alternatives. Not only that but I will ensure that I will no longer patronize any company that uses underhanded, or not responsible methods. Sincerely, Chuck Mullen Owner of 3 dot com domains.

I am a concerned business owner with multiple .com holdings and reliance on the internet for many purposes, as well as a user of the internet that is concerned that smaller entities (financially speaking) could be disadvantaged by the proposed changes. Based on my understanding or the current proposal, I urge that the following concerns be addressed before adoption. 1. Excessive increases to .COM wholesale prices will be a burden on small business and start-up companies. There should be a cap on the total increase allowed for the 10 year period of no more than 50%. 2. Additional funds paid to ICANN should be for clearly designated purposes and some persons/entity should have authority and responsibility to ensure that funds are spent in the designated manner or, if no longer appropriate, spent to enhance domain infrastructure. Hello, I wanted to express my concerne about changes you are about to apply. I am really disappointed that I am communicated by 3rd party about these important changes. These changes affect globally all the people worldwide and many businesses. It affects everyone in the same way no matter the economical situation at national level. So personally it affects individuals differently depending on many factors. It is unacceptable that that prices might increase at 40%. It will mostly benefit certain institutions that are working behind global community that is not aware of what is happening.
