Now is not the time to increase prices for the single most important TLD. Certainly don’t give Verisign free reign to increase prices. My industry depends upon .com domains being available and very low cost. And this has worked extremely well for many industries. I’m urging extreme caution in these decisions. Carl

The internet was created to be free. The cost of technology and managing these kinds of mechanisms are decreasing. It is unfair to exploit the masses for more and more - when many of these URLs can cost as much as $50 each. If anything these domains should be decreasing in cost. I am writing to oppose the proposed increase in prices over the coming decade. This secretive process and agreement with Verisign stinks and there is no clarity over how icann will be spending the additional money. This is a straight money grab and doesn't clearly represent a need to increase prices to cover an increase in operating costs. Not only that but the increase will limit the availability of the most popular domains (.com) by significantly increasing prices and making them unaffordable for many. --- -Tim Krug

I wholeheartedly oppose your proposal to raise the fees for .com domains. The suggestion is both arbitrary and without any reason whatsoever beyond gouging domain owners, as it costs no more to operate a .com domain than it does a domain with any other extension. ICANN is meant to govern the domain name system in the public interest, and raising the price will hurt the public, and the Internet as a whole. Increasing the fees for .com domains is an atrocious abuse. The cost is minimal, yet due to corporate greed and a self driven initiative, you intend to change that. This will make it difficult for many people around the world to continue affording their chosen domains. Leave the .com alone.

It is wrong and unfair for any sort of monopoly, including a monopoly over who gets to participate in negotiations regarding the .COM domain name. The internet community requires more transparency in how money is spent on infrastructure, and the .COM domain name costs should stay stable and not increase without transparent reasons that are subject to the community’s review and scrutiny. There is nothing that will be positive for this amendment aside from the richer getting richer. Please consider those who run websites with low budgets. We already have to deal with companies slurping up prime domain names. Now you want to increase the prices?? Maybe it's time ICANN gives control back to the people!

Dear ICANN, Your organization is supposed to be finding solutions to protect small businesses and individuals while finding initiatives to expand and protect. By the information I have received from my domain registrant NameCheap, looks like your organization is taking a totally different path, something we have witnessed in other sectors as well. To whom it may concern, I don't believe that an initiative to improve DNS security will be worth the price of .COM price increases and increased market power for Verisign. It is dangerous to give so much power to a single company, given the importance of the .COM TLD to the internet as a whole. This move will not benefit consumers and should be seriously reconsidered. ICANN should not consider stability and security to be the entirety of its mission, but accessibility and accountability as well. Thank you for considering my comment. I think it's rediculas that something you don't need any money to maintain is now having its price increased. The proposed changes are not only a travesty in terms of cost, but also in how they undermine continued efforts to prevent technological monopolies. How can the entity in charge of domains be a registrar itself? How can you increase the price of domains without any external input? How can you receive further funding from verisign without explaining properly why, or what it'll be used for? This is a complete and utter misuse and abuse of the power monopoly you hold over TLDs and it will have tremendous impact on millions, particularly those of US in developing economies. You are not above considering external feedback. You are not above considering the impact of your decision. You are not above being held accountable for receiving funds seemingly in exchange for preferential treatment. The proposed changes and their unilaterally convenience go against the very core beliefs that started the world wide web. You are increasing your monopoly instead of ensuring accessibility. It's disgraceful.

I strongly disagree with the proposal to increase the cost of a com domain over a 10 year period. I think that without a clear understanding of how this extra money is being spent, and who is benefiting from this, it is not right to increase the price, therefore making it harder for more people to access com domains.
