The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. Hello, Having gone through the article of namecheap about the planned increased in price for .com I believe this negociation between ICANN amd verisign should have been made public. Hi, .COM is the gold standard of TLD's, not because of any intrinsic value but because of it's name recognition. Increasing the prices of .COM will make online credibility more expensive and available to fewer, but will increase any form of credibility or prestige associated with .COM. It seems to me this change only hurts people and businesses, so I'm against it. -Eric Martin

Hi, As a domain name holder of almost 25 years, I am concerned with what I am hearing about the new deal with Verisign regarding the .com TLD. These changes hurt small businesses and start ups the hardest. As technology improves, the efficiency should be increasing offsetting most if not all growth related costs. Please reconsider this deal and do what is best for small business, start-ups, and individuals by not allowing significant increases on domain names. Thanks, Matt Gerasolo

We have important information to share with you that will affect the price of your .COM domains. What's happening? Last month, ICANN, the organization that oversees domain names, announced significant changes to the contract it has with Verisign, Inc. who operate the .COM top-level-domain (TLD). ICANN made these changes in secret, without consulting or incorporating feedback from the ICANN community or Internet users. Although ICANN has a history of making similar deals behind closed doors, and also of ignoring unified opposition against such action, we are focused on leading the fight against price increases that will harm our customers (and the Internet as a whole). This is a crucial time to raise our voices given that .COM domains make up 40% of all registered domain names online. What does this change mean? Wholesale registries charge Namecheap a set fee per domain name per year. According to this new agreement, Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 years, and the increases don’t stop there. This will mean that .COM wholesale domain prices can grow by more than 70% over and above current prices over the next decade. The contract also allows for other price increases, which could drive prices up further, ultimately making .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody. Why is ICANN doing this? Alongside these contract changes, Verisign agreed to pay ICANN an additional $20 million dollars over five years to support ICANN's domain name system initiatives, without any clarity about how ICANN will spend the money, or who will ensure that the funds are properly spent on domain infrastructure. So, what can you do to help? These changes will have significant impact on the Internet for years to come, and only ICANN and Verisign have participated in this decision. If you want to make sure your voice is heard, let ICANN know how you feel about their recent decision. The Public Comment period is open until February 14, 2020. You can leave your comment on the .COM proposal using ICANN's form.

Please don't increase the prices, already GoDaddy and many big websites are looting us except Namecheap which helps us to operate in very cheap with good service, plz don't raise the prices.

The proposed changes to the contract are harmful to the world and should not proceed. As a former employee of Verisign, there is no good that comes from that entity. From my experience and personal beliefs, I do not consider Verisigns intentions to be truthful or honest. While I worked for Verisign, I witness many actions taken by senior management that I felt were highly unethical to say the least. This proposal should be rejected.

I am a current owner and registrant of several .COM TLD domains. I am against the proposed price increase for the most common TLD. The current rate is more than enough and much more would be price gouging at the expense of the people that support this TLD. No one wants this increase. Verisign is the only one that wants the increase and is simply being a Money Hungry Corporation. Verisign has no business dictating prices. ICANN, that's you in case you forgot, is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public's, that's US in case you forgot, interest. I oppose the proposed price increase that Amendment 3 would authorize. The global DNS registration system should be run for the benefit of the public, not private interests. ICANN is chartered to preserve the public interest, not to increase the profits of a private company that has a monopoly on the most valued domain extension. This proposed amendment will impact millions of small, independent businesses and developers. Please DO NOT adopt this proposed amendment. Consider the financial impact on the millions of small businesses that this price increase will hit the hardest.
