I am wholly opposed to ICANN’s proposal to raise the fees for .com registration up to %70 over the next decade with no formal plan on what you intend to do with this extra money. The sale of .org was distressing, this is more so. We need the foundations of the internet to be dedicated to openness and transparency. This policy will do damage to that and hurt small internet entrepreneurs like me. There are better ways to raise capital. Please don’t sell yourselves to the highest bidder. Jabo

I realize the potential revenue generated would be a useful windfall. It will come at the expense of people like me — sole proprietors that own a number of domains and operate websites for small businesses. Plus, making the Internet even more pay-to-play is an alarming move.

I am a .com registrant. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign wants increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry - it has no business dictating the price - and already makes profits at current price levels in excess of the operating needs to maintain a registry. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. The public has a vested interest in reasonably priced domain registrations to foster innovation on the internet and allow the individuals to maintain a presence on the web. Aye Aye Mon

At present, this domain group is used by both large businesses and innumerable small ones - sometimes with many multiple domains for specific lines of products. As a small publisher, this was especially true. To whom it may concern, i have bought several .com websites in this past 20 years. I have preserved them for personal use, family and friends. I pay for them faithfully every year. Why are you guys are gonna increase the price of the .com without consulting the community? I would like to register my disapproval of ICANN's changes to the Verisign .com contract. You cannot make changes that will affect millions of domain name owners who are already struggling to build businesses without consulting all the organizations involved. It is irresponsible, disrespectful and unethical to make decisions behind closed doors when there is a large community of people and organizations involved, without providing further clarification on how ICANN will spend the collected funds. Are these changes necessary? Or is it because there's somebody at the top of the ladder who's wanting to be further enriched at the expense of others. Please be considerate enough to provide us with a bit more information on why, and how the funds will be spent, and the necessity of these changes, if there's any. Thank you.

Hello, I find it reprehensible that, in secret and without actively soliciting comments from the actual users of .com domains, you would collude to increase prices that very often must be paid by small business people like myself. If this amendment you are proposing goes through I will be talking to my congressperson and senator about how we can wrest control back from agencies such as yours, which appear to be purely a mechanism to line the pockets of organisations such as yourself and Verisign, and put it in the hands of those who will act responsibly and not based on $20,000,000 bribes. The Internet must remain a place where the small business and hobbyist can thrive. Raising domain prices, hinders this and furthers the takeover of large corporations owning our society. Please do not taint the name of ICANN by accepting sums of money from Verisign in order to hand over majority control of the .com domain and raise their prices exponentially. Many people, like myself, enjoy a .com domain to personalize their Email, run their own website, or link to their small business. It is clear to me that this is nothing but bad for the Internet as a whole. Please don't let us down.

I interpret this amendment as a pretty simple business transaction: Verisign is paying ICANN $20 million now, in order to be able to recover this money through .com price increases. The problem is you haven't consulted with anybody except the people making the deal, and we have no idea how ICANN will be spending this money - there are no guarantees that it will be re-invested into the health of the internet. From my perspective it’s been working fine and I have heard no justification of why the potential increase in cost OR ownership transfer is required. Hi, I write to you to remind you of the purpose which ICANN was setup for. Alongwith regulating and assign TLDs, the much heavier burden that rests on your shoulders is to keep the internet free from much corporate motive and influence, thereby aiding it's proliferation. However, it's is saddening to see a guardian organization succumbing to a motive as petty as money. Via the amendment 3 you would allow the said provider to increase prices for 8 out of the next 10 years and that too without a cap as to the quantum of increases. To top it off, all this is just for money. I hereby request you to reconsider the said amendment and roll it back to preserve the freedom of internet, which is the actual purpose of any organization regulating it. Thanks Priyank

It has come to my attention that fee increases have been submitted or passed for all dot com currently or future registered domain names. This has a huge impact on small to medium size businesses that will make the playing field biased towards big business with no appreciation for what small business does for America. Additionally, what is the money for? What will it be funding or is it simply a mandatory "tax" grab for ICANN? I do NOT support significant increases in ICANN fees. I have heard that ICANN plans to increase the wholesale costs of .com domains over the next 10 years and possibly considerable cost increases with an unregulated payment to ICANN in return. Please consider not doing so. .com domains are the backbone of the internet and the internet has long been known for its easy access market for everyone. Increasing costs will deter this environment. I read that you’re planning to implement a price increase agreement with Verisign. And it will continue annually 8 out of the next 10 years. Additionally I read you will receive millions of dollars in a kick back scheme from Verisign. As a web developer and small business owner I strongly oppose this agreement. Understandable prices overall have natural pressure to increase a small proportion each year, in order to cover improved infrastructure. Larger overhaul of systems should be funded by intelligent leadership of the company with previous understanding to the foreseeable planned point of those large upgrades. i.e.: Major upgrades are funded by long term saving and planning, not short term price hikes. Open ended price surges, are associated with "price fixing". The open and rampant invention of arbitrary domain name extensions is also nothing more than artificial real estate creation built only for additional money grabbing. I am against "in verbatim" the Proposed Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement. It requires further independent review and revision by a far greater group of stake-holders. Andrew Thomson
