.com's are fun for little guys and provide an opportunity for people that can not pay to play to actualize dreams of expressing ideas and thoughts to more people than can do from just their physical circle. A .com is legacy and the words expressed can go on beyond the life of the one who wrote them better than any other platform. In addition to the basic ability to broadcast words onto the interwebs, a .com is a way anyone can become an entrepreneur that has access to the internet. I would be sad to have the prices of .com's increase and remove one of the few places remaining that anyone can own an effective asset inexpensively. Josh Lenz

Not all .com domains are registered by businesses, and increasing the costs for everyone is unfair to people using domains for non-commercial reasons. The web was not created to be owned and sold, it was created for sharing information. Increasing costs such a substantial amount is unfair and will lead to only large corporations having .com Forcing others to change their domain undermines any work they have put into it. Stop hurting the little guys just to make more money.

Hello, I am opposed to the changes to raise .COM fees which are being pursued without consulting or incorporating feedback from the ICANN community or Internet users. To whom it may concern, including ICANN.org, As a small business owner, my website is an important resource for current and future customers, but in order to remain profitable, the current fees for registered domains need to remain the same. Also, it is not a good or viable business practice to make deals behind closed doors that negatively affect millions of people, but help make you more money. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. Please consider all the small businesses who would no longer be able to afford a .com web address and how it would affect current SEO rankings and our consumers ability to find us on the web. Yet again backroom deals are constraining the internet and its original vision. This from your own website - "It (ICANN) promotes competition and develops policy on the Internet's unique identifiers. Through its coordination role of the Internet's naming system, it does have an important impact on the expansion and evolution of the Internet." How then does a secret deal with a single entity like Verisign which is for profit while you are non-profit in any promote competition. If Verisign doesn't want the .com TLD they can sell it not use it like a cash cow with ICANN's explicit and implicit agreement. If you continue on this path, be honest and change your raison d'etre. This proposal disadvantages small businesses and lacks important specifics and safeguards to ensure that the resulting cost increases are actually justified by improvements in services, security, etc. The affordability of the .com TLD has been an enabling factor for many businesses and small organizations and this remains a vital part of the Internet's value to this day. Additionally, as many new TLDs are expensive, it is important to maintain the reasonable price of .com. Many domain registrars also sell .com at a significant markup, which will only be magnified with the proposed price increases. I urge you to reconsider this proposal in light of the important public-benefit work that ICANN does, and its duty to the wide range of customers it services through partners and affiliates. It is ICANN's responsibility to maintain a fair, accessible Internet without prohibitive price barriers. I am writing to call on ICANN to stop the proposed changes to the .COM registration. Given the lack of transparency, secretive dealings with Verisign, and the clear appearances of impropriety involved, it is clear that if ICANN wants to continue to be dealt with as an impartial organization it needs to stop the current process and start over with a broader coalition of participants and complete transparency during the discussions. If ICANN does not do this, and instead continues with its current plans, it will lose the respect of everyone who plays a role in today's internet, to its long-term detriment. I understand that ICANN has a financial incentive to allow Verisign to increase prices, but it is against the public and commercial interest outside of these entities. I am a registrant of many .com domain name over last 10 years, all for mostly personal use. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains and no one other than Verisign wants to increase .com prices! The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry - it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest.

This is a bad deal, we don't want expensive .com domains just because icann has no accountability and decided to screw users to take a mere 20M USD .. you should prepare a much more strict contract with VeriSign. Of course that's too much too ask since icann is not a private company and it doesn't really care if the money is fair for a deal...
