I've already been forced to let several of my domains expire. Please, think of the struggling entrepreneurs like me who can't afford this - you'll be taking away their business fronts. Hello, I am strongly against Proposed Amendment 3. The price increases for .COM domains are excessive, especially because they can perpetually increase on a 6 year cycle. A corporation might have no problem paying registration and renewal fees, or could afford to lock-in their wholesale price for 10 years, but a small business owner will rarely have that luxury. It is also concerning that Verisign will give $20 million dollars to ICANN with little explanation of how the money will be spent, and no mention of any regulatory oversight to ensure the funds are not mishandled. In closing, Proposed Amendment 3 does not benefit nor protect the public -- only the organizations directly involved in the proposal. It should not be adopted. Sincerely, Gwen Mullinix

I oppose the price hike. These changes will have significant impact on the Internet for years to come, and only ICANN and Verisign have participated in this decision. Alongside these contract changes, *Verisign agreed to pay ICANN an additional $20 million dollars over five years to support* ICANN's domain name system initiatives, without any clarity about how ICANN will spend the money, or who will ensure that the funds are properly spent on domain infrastructure. Last month, ICANN, the organization that oversees domain names, announced significant changes to the contract it has with Verisign, Inc. who operate the .COM top-level-domain (TLD). ICANN made these changes in secret, without consulting or incorporating feedback from the ICANN community or Internet users. Although ICANN has a history of making similar deals behind closed doors, and also of ignoring unified opposition against such action, we are focused on leading the fight against price increases that will harm our customers (and the Internet as a whole). Increase of any price should be tagged to global inflation rate and not decided by Verisign alone for every period of gap. What if Verisign decide to eventually charge $1000 per .com domain. if costs gets higher, domain parking and black market selling will be more rampant. internet community will suffer

Raising rates on .com is basically saying only the wealthy should be able to have the .com extension. Like only the wealthy should be able to live in Manhattan or San Francisco. We shouldn't subsidize your other domain initiatives. You are literally a monopoly on domains, and raising rates that we have to accept because you are literally the ONLY option we have is illegal. If you go through with it I hope it leads to busting this monopoly. 7% a year for 4 years well exceeds the rate of inflation. And it doesn't appear that we are benefitting at all, just price gouging. This needs to be fair. All websites are valuable and should be treated equally.

I simply don't understand how ICANN, an organization whose mission is to manage some of the most important aspects of the *public* internet for the benefit of the *public*, an organization which claims to work in a "bottom-up, consensus-driven, multi-stakeholder model" can possibly even consider allowing a single entity such as Verisign to raise prices by 7% **every year*.* As others have noted, this may not be a big deal for big companies. It is a VERY big deal for those of us INDIVIDUALS who own a couple of domains and want / need to keep them. I strongly urge you to walk away from this HORRIBLE deal for the public that you are supposed to serve. jay

Dear ICANN, The changes to the contract with Verisign would likely put .com users like me, a small business owner and a person providing free information on how to stop child abuse in nonprofits, in a place where they must discontinue some if not all of their internet presence. Having a website is really the best platform for my project on child protection but as I am self-funded, I would have to move to another platform if prices were to continue growing for the next 5 years. I already have enough expenses to create the materials to help nonprofits on the website. IF the prices increased, I would have to move to another platform like FB which would not be nearly as good. Additionally the domain name increases might be passed on to me on other products I use which would definitely make it unsustainable for me. The philanthropic person, the general public, AND small business owns would all be seriously hurt by these changes. Please reconsider for your users. This is a bad deal. Regards, Amy Travis

Hardworking people tryin to earn a living and start their dreams should not be robbed of there dreams fro simply creating a domain name. It appears like the hard working person is being taken advantage of . This makes .com domains less accessible and more expensive for businesses. Please keep price increases to no more than inflation levels. It is currently a toss up on whether or not to renew many .com domains, given the annual cost of holding on to them. Your increasing prices of .com domains through the Verisign deal will have one effect - domain owners will drop more domains. I have hundreds of domains - most of them of little commercial importance. Rather than sit and wait in the hope that these domains will one day realise some commercial value, if you proceed with these increases I’ll ruthlessly go through my portfolio and shred everything but the very best. I suspect a lot of other domain owners will do the same. This won’t just negate your price increases, it will decimate your revenues. If it is your intention to discourage people from registering .com domains then this is a sure-fire strategy to achieve that aim. Sent from my iPad

Hello, I very much disapprove of this contract change as it is. I don't like the lack of transparency, and I think the current change gives too much to Verisign and too little to ICANN. Raising domain fees for 40% of ICANN's business (.com fees) is HUGE, and a flat payment of $10M is a ridiculously small payment for the power it enables Verisgn to have. If Verisign is only going to pay a flat $10M, there should *strong* caps limiting how much they can raise .com prices each year.
