Hello, According to this new agreement, Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 years. This will mean that .COM wholesale domain prices can grow by more than 70% over and above current prices over the next decade. The contract also allows for other price increases, which could drive prices up further, ultimately making .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody. Sir, As a .com domain holder, please registrar my objection to this proposed change, which while providing Verisign with a monopoly to provide .com licenses allows them also to increase prices without reference to the underlying cost of providing the service. This goes very much against the spirit of the anti-combines act, which recognized that monopolies needed to be regulated to prevent them from garnering excess profits to the detriments of consumers. The counter-part payment to ICANN is a small fraction of the additional profits that the firm will be able to earn by raising prices according to the permitted schedule. They get plenty of money already to operate the .com registry, allowing such significant price increases on a yearly basis is too much. The cost to operate a registry should be going down over time, in terms of servers and software, so they certainly do not need more than small increases tied to inflation every 5 years or so. Dear ICANN, Thank you for taking on the responsibility of managing domain names. You've contributed to keeping the internet running smoothly for years now and I've always had good things to say about your organization. Since things have been going well I'm happy with the status quo and I hope you are too! I'm concerned about the unintended consequences that amendment 3 could have if passed. In the short term, I can see it negatively impacting small web publishers. In the long term, I imagine the industry will find a replacement for the current domain registrations systems, similar to how Let's Encrypt supplanted the digital certificate industry. Hi, I perceive you make enough money already. Every new domain sales price does not account to the same amount in operational cost to you. Therefore your margins get higher with every new registration. I didn’t find any clear explanation about the purpose of this and the final destination of this extra money to justify this increase. It seems you don’t actually need this money. You are forcing this, just because you have the power to do it, to over enrich even more someone’s pocket. And that’s fine. So did Netflix and Amazon and Costco. That’s capitalism. Just be honest and don’t BS people.

We understand that you are planned a change with Amendment 3 for .com registration between ICANN and Verisign that has the potential to raise registration/renewal fees. Please be aware that all entities with .com registration, some of ours have had registration since the 1990s, are not corporate and do not have the deep pockets that corporations have. We have .com registration for several clubs that are hobbyist and not for profit. We rely on what meager dues we can charge and can not afford a huge increase. Everything is not corporate (thankfully) and some of the best things in life are not for profit. Please keep this in mind as you make your decisions. -- Nancy

Hi ICANN, I'm writing to you to express my opposition to Amendment #3 of the .COM registry agreement. As you can see from my signature below, we've been designing and building we sites for over 22 years. One of the reasons that the web has grown and become so valuable, in my view, is that is affordable. Allowing verisign to increase rates annually for several years will be terrible. Fewer people will renew or buy new domains. We already hear many complaints about the excessive cost of domains as they are priced now. Increasing the cost will not help. There's really no good reason to jack up rates as proposed. I would expect ICANN to be working to keep costs down, so as many people as possible can afford domains. Hello, I have recently read about the agreement between ICANN & Verisign regarding the "allowed" price increases for the .COM registries. As a small business owner who runs several websites this cost increase can be VERY detrimental to my bottom line. As a small business, I have to watch every dollar I spend. These increases may cause me to have to choose between my sites and cut into what profit I'm currently making along with future revenues. We trust you to be the guardian and safe guard this precious thingie called 'Internet', not just for now but future too. Please do the right thing and fall for pressures from vested commercial interests. I oppose Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement. I believe that allowing wholesale prices for .com domains to rise 72% over 12 years, which is far more than the rate of inflation and also far more than Verisign's underlying costs of maintaining the registry could possibly increase by, will dramatically hurt the internet ecosystem. I am opposed to amendment 3 in its current form. Raising .com domain registration fees raises the barrier to entry to acquire a domain name. This goes against the spirit of the internet and of net neutrality. - Justin Allard

I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry - it has no business dictating the price.I am assuming the increase is that some CEO wants to increase his salary. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest.

Allowing Verisign to increase their fee for domain registrations, there is decreased access to users who would otherwise like to purchase a .com domain. Verisign does not need a several-hundred-million-dollars increase in revenue year to maintain a registry database. It is getting ridiculous at this point. Domains were never expensive to begin with; I don't see why this has to change now. Keep the internet more open for everyone and do NOT allow Verisign to raise prices on the .com registry!

The internet is about transparency and community. This arrangement had neither of these things and smells worse than the current corruption we are seeing in the USA govermnet. Please clarify what the money is going to and provide clarity on why ICANN is being chosen. Regards, Cody
