Absolutely NOT... Any pricing limitations should never be open ended. If the PIR wants to increase the price caps they should be clearly defined in writing within the agreement. This is parrticularly true of the .org domain which is used primarily for not-for-profit organizations. Pricing for Domain Name Registrations and Registry Services (Section 2.10 of the .org renewal agreement): In alignment with the base registry agreement, the price cap provisions in the current .org agreement, which limited the price of registrations and allowable price increases for registrations, are removed from the .org renewal agreement. Protections for existing registrants will remain in place, in line with the base registry agreement. This change will not only allow the .org renewal agreement to better conform with the base registry agreement, but also takes into consideration the maturation of the domain name market and the goal of treating the Registry Operator equitably with registry operators of new gTLDs and other legacy gTLDs utilizing the base registry agreement Phil DAnnolfo Andover. If you increase the price for .ORG, this would be dropping off of many of nonprofit organizations in Latin America that can't afford it.

I vote no for the change. Having a .org domain shouldn’t be a pain in the a**. We can help organizations, especially non profit orgs to have websites at a low cost. This agreement is beneficial only to one party and defeats the term “non-profit”. The PIR is becoming commercialized with this move. If they want to raise more funds, this is not the way to do it.

I write to oppose the removal of price caps on any of the “legacy” TLDs as doing so will only create a free-for-all on limitless price increases across the well-established board. The new GTLDs are already accepted as alternative options with price expectations that vary greatly based on the registry; however, current registrants of older well established extensions are expected to maintain some level of stability. These legacy domain names, some of which have been registered for many years, are unlike the new mess being created and owners of these legacy names have a reasonable expectation of affordability and stability. Leave well enough alone and move forward without effecting millions and millions of current and well established registrants who expect their domain expenses to remain reasonable, affordable and stable.

To whom it may concern: I am a domain name registrant. I've read about a lot of bad decisions under the UDRP. The URS seems even worse. I heard the URS is very new and is being reviewed now to see if it is working properly. It is too soon to include an untested policy on .org domains where for a few hundred dollars anyone could try to shut down someone else's website. Telling the .org registry that it can charge any price it wants for renewing a domain name is a terrible idea. Why would you allow them to set a crazy high price? They could try to force the domain owners to pay a very high price each year to renew their domain name, and if the domain owner either won't or can't, then the .org registry could take away their domain name, set a high registration price on it, and then try to find someone else who is willing to pay a high price for it. This is very unfair to long time .org domain owners who may see their prices raised sky high for no reason. You let the new domain extensions charge any price they want, but that hasn't gone so well. Lots of people got burned when the new registries offered low rates for the first year, and then after people registered the domain names and some built web sites on them, some of the prices were raised through the roof. .Org has been working just fine for decades where the prices maybe go up a little bit each year. Allowing huge price increases from one year to the next could ruin .org for everybody. I think you should pay a little more attention to what is good for the owners of .org domain names. The registries are doing fine. They don't need your help as they are already making plenty of money.

Many not-for-profit organizations, hobbyists, and enthusiasts depend on legacy gTLDs. The future of the free services I provide to amateur and student software developers is unclear once I am priced out of my long held domains. I feel that a nominal fee for maintaining a few records in a database is fair. An uncapped, limitless treadmill of price increases is unfair. I don't understand why I am being squeezed for more money when I don't have much. The new business oriented gTLDs should be where experiments on finding increasing profits should take place, and not the legacy gTLDs. I hope that a satisfactory solution can be reached where reasonable compensation is provided to offset operating costs of .ORG services. - Jon Mayo, San Jose, CA, USA

I writing to express my strong opposition to the provision in the proposed .org renewal that would permit unlimited price increases for .org domains. I believe this runs counter to the public interest. Although anyone can purchase a .org address, the TLD originally was intended to serve non-profit organizations. As a result, tens of thousands of non-profits across the country use .org in their domain name. While large nonprofits such as the Red Cross or United Way can easily tolerate large price increases, small nonprofits cannot. There are a large number of small nonprofits for which significant price increases would put at risk their ability to carry out their important mission. I urge you strongly to reconsider this proposal and to keep the 10% annual increase cap on the price of .org domain names. Robert Camner

This is essentially a monopoly with locked in users. Removing caps and the subsequent potential increase in prices would threaten anti trust action from various governments. It's bad for registrars, bad for businesses, bad for NGOs who will be hurt. Do not remove caps. Regards, Michael Rosmer
