Per the charter, the SPIRT will operate under an open membership model (i.e., not a representative group), so it is not necessarily dependent upon appointing groups. Note, there is a provision in the charter for the SPIRT to seek “Expert Contributors” for certain topics, when there is inadequate expertise amongst the SPIRT membership. A broader concern is if we have sufficient expertise within the appointing body/ies to effectively make a balanced call on the SPIRT membership composition and where there may be perceived gaps how such will be remedied. The summary information did not appear to disclose the special requirements of the SPIRT SOI which, to the best of my recollection, mandate agreement to disclosure of client interests by name. I believe that potential applicants need to be advised of this requirement as some may not be comfortable with the SOI requirements that were approved at the Council level. In other words, we could end up with withdrawn applications if this specific SOI requirement is not disclosed. Have I somehow missed this in the announcement of the Call for Volunteers?
