Draft Singapore schedule
Please find attached a draft schedule for GNSO activities for the Singapore meeting. Please understand that, though interactions with senior ICANN staff and the board have to contend with very busy schedules, and so may be awkward to change, this is very much a draft schedule, presented for Council discussion and input - please feel free to suggest additional items, or remove them. You'll notice that 15 minutes per WG fills up a fair bit of our schedule, and we have allocated 30 minutes for some - comments on this appreciated. I very much appreciate your input either on list, or on the Council call. One item I'll note isn't currently on the schedule - the RSSAC is meeting at the Singapore meeting, and this is very unusual. We currently don't have any RSSAC/GNSO interaction scheduled - if council members think this would be valuable, please say so ASAP. Such interaction would have to be from Monday to Wednesday. Regards David
Is there no room for the Strat Panel on MultiStakeholder Innovation or the one on the IG Ecosystem? Did we invite and get turned down? John, it is my understanding that the panels will not be gathering in Singapore although some of the chairs may attend (in person or remotely). If the Council would like to request a meeting, please let us know and we can communicate that to the responsible staff, although as said, it will depend on availability of the chairs. A slot has been set aside to discuss the strategic panel recommendations (Sunday from 11.30 12.00) following the meeting with Theresa Swinehart. The intention is that the meeting with Theresa will focus on the Strategic panels (not just the MS Innovation panel, though the recommendations from that panel are likely to be particularly relevant to council). David On 26 Feb 2014, at 1:53 am, Marika Konings <marika.konings@icann.org> wrote:

I have a call scheduled with Beth Novek, chair of the MS Innovation Panel at 19h00 UTC. The objective of the meeting is to: 1. Talk directly with her about the work of the panel and any relationship with / link to that of the GNSO 2. Discuss any possible interaction with / feedback from the GNSO / GNSO Council. I can certainly suggest the possibility of a meeting with the Council in Singapore but I think we need to be mindful of separating out: A. The work of the MSI Panel and any feedback we have on that B. The concept of, chartering of etc of the panel which I think is (to the extent that we wish to have it) a conversation with Fadi and/or Theresa. I have been following any discussion on the work of the panels / the MSI panel with the telephone meeting with Beth in mind so have a good sense of where those of you who have been engaged on this topic are at. That said, please do post any other thoughts input on this subject to the list to best inform me. hi Jonathan, i put a lot of puzzling into the earlier draft of their report and tried to make sense out of the proposals. i finally drew a 1 page picture (PDF attached) and arrayed their ideas on the Standard Consultant Two-Dimensional Matrix. in this case, i chose these as the dimensions: - Goals <—> Tools - Participation <—> Policy-making i think some sort of sifting along these lines may help us sort out how to respond to these ideas. or not. :-) mikey On Feb 26, 2014, at 4:46 AM, Jonathan Robinson <jrobinson@afilias.info> wrote:

Thanks for your work on this, David! I would very much like to discuss the issue of universal acceptance. One might say that this is an issue for others to resolve, but ICANN will likely be seen as a responsible party for not having taken sufficient steps to ensure new gTLDs "work". Since the original policy recommendations have been made by the GNSO, it appears to be appropriate for the Council to follow-up on this. Thomas, as the JIG has been requested to provide the GNSO Council with suggestions on how to deal with IDN Variants and universal acceptance and deliver these suggestions to the GNSO Council by the ICANN Singapore meeting, it was envisioned that this conversation could happen in that slot (Saturday from 11.30 - 12.00) but maybe that could be made more explicit? hi all (again). egad. a double apology. here are a couple ideas - expand the time again, maybe just little more - set the expectations for how that time is to be used. my fear is that we’ll get a long slide deck that will fill up the time and give us little opportunity to interact as a group. m On Feb 26, 2014, at 4:28 AM, David Cake <dave@difference.com.au> wrote:

Thanks for your work on this, David!
I would very much like to discuss the issue of universal acceptance. One might say that this is an issue for others to resolve, but ICANN will likely be seen as a responsible party for not having taken sufficient steps to ensure new gTLDs "work". Since the original policy recommendations have been made by the GNSO, it appears to be appropriate for the Council to follow-up on this.

Regards
David

hi all, i agree. in addition — perhaps we could expand the JIG agenda item to include this and the topic of IDN variant TLDs? the recommendations made in the SAC60 report on User Experience Implications of Active Variant TLDs also may need similar attention. mikey On Feb 25, 2014, at 11:35 AM, Thomas Rickert <rickert@anwaelte.de> wrote:
