Of course, there are other important days that need to be considered as well. For example, I doubt that ICANN would organize a meeting in the U.S. on Thanksgiving weekend. Then there are national holidays to be considered - every country has one. I keep thinking that there must be a matrix somewhere that has as many of these considerations already slotted in. Are we reinventing the wheel here?

Also they left off one of the Jewish holidays shmini Atzeret (day of assembly) which is part of Simchat Torah and also sukkot should have an asterisk as well. Also it needs to be stated that the Jewish holidays start in the early evening
The days of significance is that the first two days of a holiday are days of religious observance and also the last days of a holiday

Hmmm…… well, this would be awfully useful provided that it was (a) complete, (b) kept up to date and (c) done by someone else. e.g. some astronomical sources and knowledge, including lunar aspects, would be required. However, this falls outside ICANN's purview: Avri +1 CW PS. The original post has engendered nearluy a dozen responses in less than 48 hours! Is this a reord for At Large?

Big +1. I'm gobsmacked this is a thing! Who would even insist on going down that rabbit hole? I can speak as a former acolyte over at St. Paul of the Cross. Observations of high holy days may not be deprived to anyone. And I forswear my position as an attempt to deprive any man or beast the entitlement to his/her religious callings and observations. But you may not impose, much less foist, those sensibilities on me. If I may suggest this remedy: record an apology and don't show up for anything scheduled for your days. If we insist, I should be vociferously adamant that Emancipation Day (August 1) celebrated in the former British colonial outposts and Jamaica's Independence Day (August 6) may not be discriminated against and are duly recognized and adopted. Hi Judith: Exactly. I quite agree this matter of commitment, a choice between personal damnation, the unmooring of one's soul and bruised national pride vs. attending an ICANN meeting, must be an intensely personal decision. This is how "ranking" begins; all are equal but some are more equal than others. What I cannot agree with is that it should be an At-Large position. On principle. Hi Carlton, Claire and I have taken everyone down this Rabbit hole since there is an open public comment on scheduling the dates for the iCANN meetings from 2029-2033 and several of them conflict with Muslim, Jewish and other religious holidays. In At Large we try and make sure that all participants do not have to choose to either attend an icann meeting or celebrate their religious holiday. Or national holiday. It is very easy to see all the holidays and ICANN can easily check a list of holidays so that that participants do not have tp choose one or the other.
