The problem is that this WG is required to be open and transparent. People may be coming in to it over the next month or so. How can they know whether they want to participate if there is a language barrier at this stage? How can they ask for translation services if they are not participating yet? Chicken and egg?

I think it would be helpful if those who need translation services would identify which U.N. language is needed. That way we can pursue this possibility in the most cost efficient manner and maybe increase chances of succeeding.

Hi All, Following up on the discussion on translation services that occurred on the CWG call on 6th October.
I think its valuable to initiate a discussion on wether the group feels that not having a translation service available is a barrier to participation and outreach and if so what can be done to alleviate any concerns in this area.
Personally I feel that this is a process that encompasses an internationally diverse group and that participation should not be functionally limited to those who have a working command of any single language. However I do understand the logistics of providing such a service come at a cost.
So is there a value in requesting translation (live or for the recorded calls) services to be provided to the group?
