WG: EURALO Petition to extend the At-Large voting slate
Dear all, thanks for your participation and support on our recent request for your opinions on the options for a EURALO petition to extend the At Large slate. Until yesterday PM, we had the following result: Option A: Stefan, Annette, Werner, Rena, Wolfgang, Yjrö, Sandra, Wolf = 8; Option B: Patrick, Adam, Manuel, Rudi = 4; Option C: Dessi, Monique (Sébastien) = 2 (3). Christopher told me that as a BCEC member he prefers to abstain from positioning – what I understand and support. This means, we had a strong majority for petitioning (Options A and B). And it was difficult for Olivier and me to decide on our course of action among the two options. Therefore, we tried to find a compromise – to be as inclusive as possible – by sending our EURALO petition for two candidates: Avri Doria and Jean-Jacques Subrenat who explicitly asked us for support. The other suggested candidate for option B Jordi was not seeking contact and support from us. I hope that our final compromise and course of action is acceptable for all those (12 members) at least who expressed themselves for petitioning. Please be aware that the member consultation for the directed vote of the Chair in this matter will start soon, and I am counting on a strong participation and your support again. Thanks and kind regards, Wolf Wolf Ludwig wrote Sun, 07 Nov 2010 16:09:
Dear Fatima, Dear Hong, Dear Andrés, Dear Evan, Dear RALO members
As you may be aware, there is an agreed procedure that EURALO members will be consulted over the next weeks to vote on their preferred candidates to enable a directed vote to the EURALO Chair. Some of our members indicated their frustration and concern already about the given restricted choice of the current selection made by the BCEC. We were therefore asked to launch an inter-RALO petition to extend the At-Large voting slate again. According to the rules of procedure, candidates can only be reintroduced on the final slate if they get support from three RALOs at least. Therefore we would like to ask you for your respective support on the reconsideration of the following candidates:
- Avri Doria In August 2010, EURALO supported Avri Doria's candidature because we believe she would be an excellent Board Director for the user community in view of her long-standing expertise, involvement at ICANN, sensitivity for user and community concerns and her proven leadership capacities. When Avri submitted her remarkable SoI, we were reaffirmed that she would be a highly qualified candidate for this position. There was considerable disappointment in the EURALO community when we learned from the At-Large slate published on 28 October 2010 that she was not even nominated and many ALSes were surprised that the slate was not gender diverse.
- Jean-Jacques Subrenat As a current ICANN Board member, it has become common knowledge by many of our members that Jean-Jacques Subrenat was instrumental to the creation of Seat 15 on the Board. This, in itself, demonstrates someone who would be able to stand up on the Board and defend their convictions. Having been selected to the Board in the past, Jean-Jacques' excellent credentials have already been acknowledged and a measure of continuity with a new mission in his hand would be welcome.
We think it is important to note that petitioning on behalf of one or more candidates on a slate does not indicate any prejudice or mean a promise to vote for them – this responsibility remains in the well-understood sovereignty of each RALO and its members. Decisions on voting should be based however on variety of choice, equality of gender and chances and full consideration of the candidates’ potentials. Under these conditions our members will have a broader chance of selection to make up their minds. We are simply trying to give At Large Structures the widest options in selecting the best candidate.
We would appreciate any favourable consideration and forwarding of our petition to your RALO and members and would be grateful for your support.
Thanks and kind regards, Wolf Ludwig EURALO Chair

Hello Sorry to be slow to reply, I'm in rural Japan with limited connectivity. My preference is for option A for the reasons stated by others. Best, Bill On Nov 8, 2010, at 12:58 AM, Wolf Ludwig wrote:
