Dear WG Members, Establishing the date for the first meeting was done primarily to provide as much advance notice as possible to members. The main reason for not using a Doodle poll for this initial meeting is that the WG membership continues to grow, so members yet to sign up to the WG could be excluded from participating in the poll. One of the topics for the first meeting is anticipated to be a discussion on future scheduling of meetings, which could include debate around the day of the week and time and whether rotating meeting times is necessary, though resolution would be done through a Doodle poll or similar. That all said, from a staff perspective, we can certainly still establish a Doodle poll for this initial meeting, but it may introduce uncertainty and delays in scheduling. Dear All, It is good that ideas on on the way forward are being floated. I support Janvier Ngnoulaye's idea of creating a simple doodle to see how many of us will be available to participate on the suggested Thursday 25 Feb. first WG meeting. Dear Steve and All Although the 25th february is fine with me, this selection process of the date of that kickoff meeting does not sound to be the result of a consensus of the majority. I did not understand why a simple Doodle has not been created to allow the majority of the current members to find themselves into the chosen date, unless the staff has precedence on the process.

Dear WG Members,
Welcome to all of those who have signed up to the WG already and we appreciate your enthusiasm in initiating discussions.
Staff has consulted with Paul McGrady, the Council liaison and interim chair, and identified a proposed date and time for the first WG meeting, which is Thursday, 25 February 2016 at 16:00 UTC. As the New gTLD Subsequent Procedures PDP is anticipated to be a topic of broad community interest, we thought it would be beneficial to allow the call for volunteers to remain open for a period of approximately three weeks. Going forward from that initial meeting, the WG may want to identify a different day of the week and time(s) that may be more convenient for members. Unless this proposed time proves widely problematic, we will work with the GNSO Secretariat to have meeting invitations sent to members in the near future.
In terms of staff participation, it is indeed expected that a number of staff, including from the teams led by the folks Jeff mentioned, will at a minimum follow the mailing list, if not actively participate in WG discussions.
And to the discussion between Mirilia and Michele, the reason for targeting the end of February for the first meeting was to allow for adequate time for potential members to sign up before the WG begins discussions. However, as Michele noted, signing up after the WG starts is possible.
Best, Steve

I would guess that next Monday or Tuesday would be too little notice anyway. Probably have to think about the week after. I will talk to ICANN staff today to see if we can get that Doodle poll.
Also as a side note, I would like to see ICANN staff (not only policy staff) sign up on the mailing list. I believe input from Christine Willet¹s organization, Karen Lentz, Allen Grogan¹s group and Krista Papac¹s group could provide some good insight into our work. To date they are not listed on the ICANN wiki.
Thanks all!

I was thinking we would get some kind of doodle to elect best time to all. I do believe would be great to have a couple of calls before Marrakesh.
Here is Carnival time, so I will be available next week.
Best to all

All,
Just writing to see if we were working on setting up an initial call or meeting schedule? It would be great to meet a couple of times prior to ICANN 55 (which is less than a month away)? There is a lot of work for us to do in this group. I know Paul McGrady is the interim chair and as one of the former Discussion Group co-chairs, I would be happy to volunteer to assist Paul.
I look forward to working with you all in this group.
Best regards,
