.uk ccTLD to introduce privacy / proxy + change opt out criteria
As some of you may know Nominet conducted a consultation earlier this year on their whois policies. Thanks for sharing Michele. I am interested in how feasible Nominet has found the implementation of restricting the "opt out" to non-merchant websites. Do we have someone from Nominet in the group? Kiran There’s nobody from Nominet in this group as far as I know, but there are several Nominet members (hi!) Up until now they’ve been “reactive” i.e. If they get a report from someone or pick up on something in their own systems they’d notify the registrant and the registrar that they were being opted in. I *think* they gave the registrant a couple of days to lodge a challenge, but I could be wrong. The issue, as I mentioned in my post, is that they were also treating ANY hint of revenue in many cases as equating as “trading”. This of course caused lots of headaches for personal bloggers who might be getting a couple of dollars / euro / pounds per month from Google adsense etc., but weren’t either making their living from their blogs or actually selling anything themselves. The new policy has only just been announced, so I’d suspect they’ll be providing more details on the operational aspects in due course and before it comes into force in September Regards Michele -- Mr Michele Neylon Blacknight Solutions Hosting, Colocation & Domains http://www.blacknight.host/ http://blog.blacknight.com/ http://www.blacknight.press - get our latest news & media coverage http://www.technology.ie Intl. +353 (0) 59 9183072 Direct Dial: +353 (0)59 9183090 Social: http://mneylon.social Random Stuff: http://www.michele.irish/ ------------------------------- Blacknight Internet Solutions Ltd, Unit 12A,Barrowside Business Park,Sleaty Road,Graiguecullen,Carlow,Ireland Company No.: 370845 On 23/07/2015 20:23, "Kiran Malancharuvil" <Kiran.Malancharuvil@markmonitor.com> wrote:

Interesting. I think a reactive approach is probably the only way to implement such a restriction, as I mentioned in Buenos Aires on a couple of occasions (GNSO Council on Saturday and PPSAI group on Wednesday). It's definitely great news that they further clarified what is meant by "trading" to exclude those websites which are clearly not accepting or soliciting details directly from consumers. Kiran Well they have the added advantage of being a ccTLD, so they only have to deal with one government (though 3 parliamentary assemblies + 3 legal systems) Regards Michele -- Mr Michele Neylon Blacknight Solutions Hosting, Colocation & Domains http://www.blacknight.host/ http://blog.blacknight.com/ http://www.blacknight.press - get our latest news & media coverage http://www.technology.ie Intl. +353 (0) 59 9183072 Direct Dial: +353 (0)59 9183090 Social: http://mneylon.social Random Stuff: http://www.michele.irish ------------------------------- Blacknight Internet Solutions Ltd, Unit 12A,Barrowside Business Park,Sleaty Road,Graiguecullen,Carlow,Ireland Company No.: 370845 On 23/07/2015 20:35, "Kiran Malancharuvil" <Kiran.Malancharuvil@markmonitor.com> wrote:
