Hi Emily, Thanks for sending this through. I wonder whether we want to break out the criteria the SG/C Leaders have identified as particularly important for GNSO appointees? So the existing question evaluating the overall suitability of the candidate(s) for the role remains, but the specific criteria that have been identified as critical to the GNSO are also assessed separately. #3 (“understanding of the IRP and its role as an ICANN accountability mechanism”); and #4 (“relevant organizational and process experience, i.e. ability to understand and evaluate the standing panelist criteria and responses, which includes legal and arbitration experience”) I’m not saying we have to do this, but just floating the idea. Hi Sophie, I think this is a good idea particularly given the newness in using the SSC for the CRG task and that "the SSC must report back to the SG/C and Council leadership teams with an assessment of the selection process, including suggestions for potential improvements to it." We may also want to add the following, which is called out in the GNSO Guidance document: - Must be aware of the GNSO’s diversity of interests and conscious of the need to represent the GNSO as a whole (i.e. must not represent just their SG/C’s interests) Thanks, Craig *--* Craig Schwartz Managing Director fTLD Registry Services | .BANK & .INSURANCE Mobile: +1 202 236 1154 www.fTLD.com On Thu, Jan 7, 2021 at 1:45 PM Sophie Hey <sophie.hey@comlaude.com> wrote:

Hello Emily and the SSC team, Happy new year once again. Having gone through the Terms of Reference for the role, and the specific request from the GNSO to us on this duty, I have few concerns and suggestions. First, since this is the first time such a duty is coming to us to execute, I suggest we recommend to the GNSO council and to further be passed on to ICANN org that the Expression of Interest should rather come in a template form to be completed. A specific example is the form used to recruit the GNSO liaison to the CSC. By getting this template to be used by all applicants with specific questions, it will make it easier for comparing one applicant to the other. For example, the form should have specific questions for the applicants to answer to indicate how they meet the set criteria. We can all remember that the template we used recently for the ICANN Fellowship Mentor role helped us so much to compare and choose among the 4 applications we got. I strongly recommend we pass on this suggestion going forward. Secondly, I support the call for the draft poll to be broken down so we can evaluate if the candidate has met the specific criteria set out for this role as indicated by Sophie. I whole-heartedly support this approach Raymond. In order for us to assess candidates we need complete and thorough responses that enable us to objectively compare qualifications. Case in point is the poll from yesterday’s meeting where there was consensus support for the candidate that was selected and at the same time one SSC member that said none of the candidates were qualified. How can there be such a drastic variation in the assessment? Best, Craig Sent from my iPad
