As we start working on developing the FY26-FY30 Middle East Regional Plan, we have developed a shared GDrive document for you all to solicit your input. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gL-D_CrcPX1-K2Vja-cZn4A6HzbR2y3GncNz... [docs.google.com]<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gL-D_CrcP...> The document has 5 pages as follows: 1. Page 1 - Mission and Vision 2. Page 2 – Strategic Objective 1 of the ICANN FY26-FY30 Strategic Plan 3. Page 3 – Strategic Objective 2 of the ICANN FY26-FY30 Strategic Plan 4. Page 4 – Strategic Objective 3 of the ICANN FY26-FY30 Strategic Plan 5. Page 5 – Strategic Objective 4 of the ICANN FY26-FY30 Strategic Plan Unless the group says otherwise, sheet 1 doesn’t need any edits or input as the mission and vision of the FY26-FY30 Middle East Regional Plan must go inline with the overall ICANN FY26-FY30 Strategic Plan. This page also has 2 weblinks to the current draft FY26-FY30 Strategic Plan + Operating and Financial Plans. Pages 2, 3, 4, and 5 have 5 columns each as follows: 1. Column 1 entitled “Strategic Goals” is extracted from the ICANN FY26-FY30 Strategic Plan. Unless the group sees otherwise, this column will move on to the Regional Plan without edits, but some of the Strategic Objectives or Strategic Goals may not be of relevance to our Regional Plan (e.g. in the FY21-FY25 Middle East Regional Plan, the Strategic Objective on Finances was not part of the regional plan as the strategy working group back then felt that it crosses with the other 4 strategic objectives). 2. Column 2 entitled “Strategies” is also extracted from the ICANN FY26-FY30 Strategic Plan. This is where most of the focus will be on. 3. Column 3 entitled “Proposed Regional Activities” is where YOUR input as a group is needed 4. Column 4 entitled “Examples of Current Work” is our input as GSE Middle East based on what work we have undertaken under each listed Strategic Goal and Strategy in the current Regional Plan (FY21-FY25) and even before. This input could be helpful to your work when suggesting Activities (column 3). 5. Column 5 entitled “Expectations” is about where we would like to arrive at in the next 5 years of this new Regional Plan. Again, this is our input as GSE Middle East, and could be helpful to you when you suggest Activities under column 3. This GDrive excel sheet is in “Comments” mode to ensure that all input received is intact. If you find it challenging to use the current mode, you are kindly advised to download the excel sheet, add your input and then share it with me via email, and I will be happy to add your input to the relevant column directly with your name against it. We have a call next Monday 13 January 2023 at 09.00 – 10.00 AM UTC to discuss this sheet further, answer any questions you may have, and agree on the way forward. My colleague @Seher Sagiroglu<mailto:seher.sagiroglu@icann.org> will share a meeting invite with zoom room details. If you have any questions before the call, please feel free to share them here on this list, or reach out to me directly. Thank you, Fahd Batayneh ICANN
Dear Fahd and Seher, Sorry for not being able to attend the last Call due to some Jobs Duties, it's a very busy period for us! I would like just to clarify my comment about the objective OS2 2.1.1 Improve institutional agility and adaptability 'What we are going to improve is: the The Institution Scope(Structural and/Or Operational) and Mission or the Institution staff capacity or Both(In Five years Terms!)? Is more or less a question in order to identify what we are looking to make more AGIL: If we are looking to make our ICANN ME structures more AGIL, which are mainly workgroups, technical task forces, and ALs, we need to act on their charter and scope mission by, for example, recommending the adoption of AGIL practices in their different activities. If we are targeting community members rather than structures, we have to improve community capacity for example by developing capacity-building programs for the community members to improve their agility and adaptability. Hope that this response is useful. Friendly regards. Chokri
Hi Chokri: It’s truly wonderful to hear from you! I very much appreciate your continued support and dedication to ICANN’s work. Thank you for your question and for your thoughtful engagement in these discussions. The strategy 2.1.1, is primarily focused on ICANN org—specifically, how to enhance its agility and adaptability. Some key activities identified so far include: Implementing decentralized decision-making to empower individuals at all levels across the organization. Adopting lean and agile methodologies to streamline ICANN org processes. Evaluating organizational structures to improve flexibility and responsiveness. I hope this provides clarity! For other aspects of agility, particularly within the community-driven processes, I highly encourage you and the community to explore strategy 1.2.4—which focuses on incorporating flexibility and agile methodologies into the policy and advice development and implementation life cycle. This presents a great opportunity for collaboration, brainstorming, and evolving the PDP and advice development to be more adaptive and effective. I appreciate your engagement and look forward to further discussions on these important topics. Thank you. Dear Victoria, Thank you for the precious and very helpful clarification, and I would like to congratulate you for choosing the adaptive approach, and I really think that is the most suitable for the ICANN ORG looking to the complex and unpredictable environments on which the organization is acting, and without a doubt this will impact the service provided to the community since the ICANN ORG team will optimize value by working continuously with the community members to determine which features are worth investment and which may not be valuable enough. I also agree with the adoption of the AGILE methodology by the community in their respectives activities, the efficiency will be improved, and consequently the added value of those activities, there are a lot of challenges that may arise but I think that it is feasible . Thank you again for your time and we look forward to your support as the work on developing the regional plan progresses.
