ICANN84 Statement – Focus Proposal on Emerging Technologies

Dear Colleagues, I hope this message finds you well. Thank you once again for your valuable time and commitment to contributing to the ICANN84 statement on “Emerging Technologies and the Role of RIRs.” Your willingness to support this effort is greatly appreciated. Following extensive discussions and research, we’ve noted that the topic of emerging technologies covers a broad range of areas—such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and others. While all of these are significant, many fall outside the direct scope of ICANN’s mission. To ensure our efforts are both impactful and aligned with ICANN’s remit, we propose narrowing our focus to one emerging technology that intersects meaningfully with ICANN’s responsibilities. This will serve as a solid starting point for raising awareness and, subsequently, developing a well-informed statement and recommendations. As a potential starting point, we would like to suggest the topic: “Harnessing AI to Strengthen DNS Abuse Mitigation” — a subject we believe aligns well with ICANN’s scope while reflecting the growing importance of emerging technologies. ICANN Issues Call for UA Day 2026 Proposals

https://www.icann.org/en/announcements/details/icann-issues-call-for-ua-day… The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) today launched a call for proposals for UA Day 2026 events to be held between 25 March and 30 May 2026. Building on its partnership with ICANN to advance Internet inclusivity, multilingualism, and equitable access online, UNESCO is supporting this fourth annual series of events that focus on the adoption of Universal Acceptance (UA). The deadline to submit<https://www.icann.org/ua-day-call-for-proposals-2026-en> a proposal is 9 November 2025. UA is a technical requirement that ensures all valid domain names and email addresses, regardless of script, language, or character length, work in all Internet-enabled applications, devices, and systems. In a UA-ready world, Internet users can choose an online identity in the language or script of their choice and ensure that their chosen domain names and email addresses will work seamlessly on the Internet. Achieving UA-readiness is essential to enabling a more linguistically diverse Internet. In line with UNESCO's 2003 Recommendation concerning the Promotion and Use of Multilingualism and Universal Access to Cyberspace<https://www.unesco.org/en/legal-affairs/recommendation-concerning-promotion…>, and the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022-2032)<https://www.unesco.org/en/decades/indigenous-languages>, this initiative supports efforts to foster multilingualism, digital inclusion, and equitable access to information online. Call for Nominations: 2026 ICANN Leadership Program

https://www.icann.org/en/announcements/details/call-for-nominations-2026-ic… The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has issued a call for nominations for the 2026 ICANN Leadership Program, to be held 5–6 March 2026 in Mumbai, India, just before the ICANN85 Community Forum. The Leadership Program helps current and incoming leaders better understand the complexities of ICANN, while also helping to develop their facilitation skills. Current and incoming community leaders interested in participating in the program need to be endorsed by their Supporting Organization, Advisory Committee, or stakeholder group chairs. The ICANN organization will reach out to the respective chairs for nominations and a registration link will be sent directly to individuals who are nominated. The deadline for nomination is Friday, 21 November 2025. The Leadership Program will not provide financial support for travel to Mumbai but will cover accommodations and offer a stipend for the days of the program.
