In addition to what John says, when Karl talks about the failure of the ALAC, he's measuring the ALAC against how he believes ICANN *should* treat individual participants and Internet users. Against the ideal that Karl worked very hard in the 1996-2000 time period to see realized, the ALAC falls far short. Unlike Jeff, Karl is a real person. He is certainly bitter and negative, but his positions are informed by far more direct ICANN experience than any of the rest of us have. It is worth keeping in mind the possibility that the reason he says what he says is because it's true.
