Yonkers is about 25 minutes in good traffic conditions from White Plains/Westchester Airport, which is a small regional airport but with several daily connections to Toronto, and fewer to Montreal and Ottawa. Yonkers itself is about a 20-minute drive (in good traffic) from mid-town Manhattan, and about 45 minutes drive from JFK and Newark international airports, and about the same for LaGuardia domestic airport. It is possible to take taxis, airport limos, etc. to here from all airports. It's also possible to connect via public transport from JFK and Newark, though not from LaGuardia or White Plains. Public transportation would probably take an hour or more, and you would still need to take a taxi from Yonkers station to Consumers Union. I would recommend taxis, though the fares would probably run upwards of $50 from JFK, $100 from Newark, probably $35 from White Plains. -----Original Message----- From: Thompson, Darlene [mailto:DThompson@GOV.NU.CA] Sent: Thursday, March 13, 2008 9:12 AM To: Brendler, Beau; Evan Leibovitch; NA Discuss Subject: RE: [NA-Discuss] NARALO 2009 Regional Meeting Hi all, My only concern about the Yonkers possibility is its unavailability to any major airport. Beau, how does one get to where you are from the nearest airport? I don't actually know the geography there all that well (OK, not at ALL!)! D Darlene A. Usually ALSs are invited to have their regional in-person meets at the local ICANN meeting. It is my recollection that, if there is no meeting taking place in a region during a calendar year, policy allows that ALSs of that region are entitled to have an in-person regional meeting. I believe there is a precedent already, a meeting held February 2007 by APRALO in Bali. (I also seem to recall that a proposal last year for a EURALO meeting for Geneva was refused...) In 2007 we met in San Juan, and I anticipate we will all be at the Summit in November this year. However, there will be no North American ICANN meeting in calendar 2009, and I would like everyone to start thinking about a good time and place to hold a regional ALS meeting in Sep/Oct of next year (which would be halfway between the Summit and the Oct 2010 meeting). Because the number of people involved is so small, it could be held anywhere. Perhaps adjacent to another conference? Once upon a time there was a plan to meet, before signing the MOU, at Consumers Union in Yonkers NY. Beau, is that offer still open? There' s no rush, but I just want to toss the idea out to make sure it's not forgotten, in the ICANN budget or otherwise. Nick, what have other regions done in planning this kind of meeting? How much advance notice is needed? - Evan ------ NA-Discuss mailing list NA-Discuss@atlarge-lists.icann.org http://atlarge-lists.icann.org/mailman/listinfo/na-discuss_atlarge-lists .icann.org Visit the NA-RALO Wiki at https://st.icann.org/naralo/ ------ *** Scanned *** Scanned
