I think most BOD's are compensated, even at non profits
Yes, it's true. If ICANN paid its directors, it would broaden the candidate pool to include people who aren't subsidized by their employers. I might be interested, but I can't possibly afford to spend 2/3 or more of my time on non-paying work.
