I find this to be very annoying
I don't suppose it is illegal, but if you look them up on Google, you will find them labelled as a scam. One of our customers brought the attached to us when he came in to pay for another year's service. It is designed in a very sneaky way to look like an official communication. Apparently there is a US counterpart to this company. Have any of the rest of you come across this group? Thanks, Gareth
Gareth, In the United States we had problems with an Ontario-based firm that operated under the name Domain Registry of America, Inc. Federal Trade Commission action was taken -- see http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2003/12/domainreg.shtm What you have documented is likely your local equivalent. DROC is a domain name reseller. They use eNom as a primary accredited registrar. For one view on eNom's attitude toward the rights of the general public see this recent post: http://wikileaks.org/wiki/WIKILEAKS.INFO_censored_by_eNom_and_Demand_Media regards, Danny --- Gareth Shearman <shearman@victoria.tc.ca> wrote:

DROC and DROA are the same outfit, doing the same fake renewal invoice scam on both sides of the border. They've had legal problems in Canada, too. I believe they are also the same as Libertynames which does a fake directory invoices. My stack of DROA paper mail is now close to 10cm high, so any claims they have been deterred so far are unpersuasive. Hi Ross, The Terms of Service Agreement that Gareth provided in his attachment also show them to be doing business with Wild West and eNom. In the "Our Services" section it also states: "We are a reseller of an accredited registrar". By the way, didn't both Tucows and register.com have a lawsuit against this outfit a few years back? regards, Danny --- Ross Rader <ross@tucows.com> wrote:

As far as I understand it, DROC/DROA are DBA's for Brandon Gray Internet Services, an ICANN accredited registrar.

Nick, Let's assume that a member of the public wishes to point out a violation of the Registrar Accreditation Agreement. It might be, for example, a violation of 3.3.5 or 3.3.6 (which seem to be implicated in the DROC correspondence that Gareth has shared). Where on the ICANN website do we have the email addresses of the compliance department posted? I can't even find them cited on the "ICANN Staff" page, or on the internic page, or on the contractual compliance program page. In the wake of the earlier registerfly mess, one would have thought that ICANN would have made it far easier to interact with the compliance office... regards, Danny ____________________________________________________________________________________ Looking for last minute shopping deals? Hi Gareth, I receive that annual renewal notice many times in a year since I'm managing many web sites. Could never trust those guys ! How many DROA do that on the planet without ICANN being able to «rectify» such a business practice ? Thanks for the info Louis Houle ISOC Québec Gareth Shearman a écrit :

OMG!!! Stephane from my office got the EXACT same letter a few months ago. He brought it in to me and I explained that it was a scam.
