NARALO Executive Positions
Hi All We are pleased to announce that Garth Bruen has been affirmed as the returning Chair for NARALO. Evan Leibovitch has been affirmed as secretariat and lastly Louis Houle is affirmed as the NOMCOM representative. All three individuals were affirmed since they were not contested in our annual elections. Please take the opportunity to welcome and congratulate them and wish them well in the forthcoming year. The only election position will be for the ALAC position and the election starts on Wednesday of this week. Hi, I must say I find this whole quick acclimation on a phone call a bit unfortunate, seems more like an informal club than the aggregate of bottom up groups. But be that as it may. congrats. avri On 14-Jul-14 15:34, Glenn McKnight wrote:

Avri, it has been the ALAC and NARALO practice essentially since the organizations started to treat positions for which there is only one candidate as acclaimed. The nominations were open for a full month prior to this action being taken. Moreover the rules for both organizations call for consensus decisions and only resorting to a vote if there is clearly no consensus (in both cases it is the Chair's call). We certainly could have a rule that all selections must go to a vote including "none of the above", but it is currently neither a rule nor tradition. Feel free to propose it. Avri, I would prefer competitive elections. I brought this up repeatedly during phone calls and in our General Assembly. -Garth -----Original Message----- From: na-discuss-bounces@atlarge-lists.icann.org [mailto:na-discuss-bounces@atlarge-lists.icann.org] On Behalf Of Avri Doria Sent: Monday, July 14, 2014 4:06 PM To: na-discuss@atlarge-lists.icann.org Subject: Re: [NA-Discuss] NARALO Executive Positions Hi, I must say I find this whole quick acclimation on a phone call a bit unfortunate, seems more like an informal club than the aggregate of bottom up groups. I would prefer competitive elections. I brought this up repeatedly during phone calls and in our General Assembly.
The lack of competitive elections is a symptom, not a problem. If a job offers so little reward and so much work that we can't find two people willing to do it, the problem is with the job, not with the election. I also have to say that complaints from people who demand competitive elections but are not willing to be a candidate are impressively hypocritical. Name calling aside, sometimes people believe in competitive elections but already have plenty of ICANN volunteer duties/positions already. Do you really claim that being too committed to ICANN volunteerism already is a reason to not have an opinion? for example i really believe in competitive elections and have worked on making that the case on occasion. Someday I may want to run for a NARALO position, I have not ruled it out, but at this point as GNSO council member I do not really think I can. Does this make me a hypocrite by having a belief I dare to voice? avri avri
HI Avri, No I do not think so. I agree with yout. I was also considering running for a position but did not have the time right now, perhaps next year or if they restructure the leaderships posts Best, Judith _________________________________________________________________________ Judith Hellerstein, Founder & CEO Hellerstein & Associates 3001 Veazey Terrace NW, Washington DC 20008 Phone: (202) 362-5139 Skype ID: judithhellerstein E-mail: Judith@jhellerstein.com Website: www.jhellerstein.com Linked In: www.linkedin.com/in/jhellerstein/ Opening Telecom & Technology Opportunities Worldwide On 7/17/14, 5:15 PM, Avri Doria wrote:

Judith, I found your comment very interesting. How would you suggest that the leadership posts be restructured? Thanks! D On Thu, Jul 17, 2014 at 4:37 PM, Judith Hellerstein <judith@jhellerstein.com
