Klaus, I´m amazed by the timing your initiative. So please let me ask you for a few clarifications, so as to understand where the initiative is coming from and how does it help NPOC during ICANN56 meeting in Helsinki, which is a very short one in case you have not noticed: 1. how do you expect to squeeze one more meeting in a B-Agenda foreseen for the 4 day Helsinki meeting? Have you transmitted this ideas of extra meetings to the Council (Volker and Donna) and/or Staff? There has been little reaction so far in the GNSO Council about the agenda we are expecting. 2. who is going to pay for this? Is this part of ICANN policy budget which is foreseen to be reduced in FY17?who is exactly behind this initiative and would you please point me to their SOI? 3. and before further discussing this initiative any further, please tell me exactly when and for how long are we going to sit in Helsinki to discuss about another issue that interests me: NPOC participation in the policy work of the GNSO. After Marrakesh and a few very unpleasant e-mail exchanges with Sam, I still have the feeling that NPOC is falling short of its mission in terms of our engagement as a group in the very relevant policy work ongoing in ICANN right now. So you will excuse me but I consider that our role is much more than a “window” that we can choose to use or not as I have tried to explain to Sam many time. I think it is a serious responsibility we have to face, or else if we prefer other initiatives, leave our space free for new generation, like the successful Ambassadors Program, to ACTIVELY participate in ICANNs policy work. The name of the room of the NPOC policy meeting you can give me later. I suggest to distribute the requested clarifications to “all” members of NPOC so we can engaged openly in considering the benefits of this initiative, as far as ICANN56 is concerned. Maybe you should consider it for one of the longer meetings. best regards Carlos Raúl Gutiérrez +506 8837 7176 Skype: carlos.raulg Current UTC offset: -6.00 (Costa Rica) On 6 Apr 2016, at 3:14, Klaus Stoll wrote:

*Your NPOC membership in ICANN gives you a window on global Internet policy, and a door to participate in that policy development. Your ability to engage in policy development aligned with the mission of your organization depends on both your knowledge and awareness, and on the health of your organization’s relationship to the Internet Ecosystem itself. *
*Here is an opportunity to strengthen the health of that Internet Ecosystem relationship. *

*About Pathfinder*
Civil Society and NGOs are the Internet's largest stakeholder group, and they are increasingly dependent on how the Internet operates in order to carry out their work. It is essential for civil society organizations to be aware of the opportunities the Internet affords and to acquire the capacities needed to make the best possible use of the Internet. For this reason the Pathfinder Initiative was created in 2014. The goals of the Pathfinder Initiative are to raise awareness and capacity to engage in strategic Internet planning, to promote organizational voices in areas of Internet policy formation and implementation, and to increase the role of civil society organizations as “Citizens of the Internet”.
*Pathfinder Activities*
*Webinars + Dialogues: *We host presentations by thought leaders, promote dialogue, and provide you with the knowledge, technologies and tools to succeed.
*Research: *We share quantitative and qualitative analysis on nonprofit, NGO and civil society use of the Internet in order to guide strategies & policy.
*Events: *We present live events to connect and engage organizations with the partners they need, so as to enhance your impact in your work and the pursuit of your mission.
*Capacity building: *This is where your input counts. Shared resources are available and a global community exists to support you, but only you fully understand the context in which you work.
*(**NEW**) **Pathfinder Direct**: *Over the last years the Pathfinder Initiative has successfully implemented capacity building seminars, webinars, dialogues, and research projects globally. We will continue and increase these activities. In addition we will add a new type of activity: /*Pathfinder Direct*/. It is the goal of Pathfinder to reach as many people as possible with its capacity and awareness building programs. We will bring Pathfinder to more people through holding Pathfinder events in conjunction with the existing meetings, conferences and events of /*Pathfinder Partner Organizations*/. Events will be tailored to the interests and needs of the host organizations and their specific event participants.
