Hi Raymond and all,
Thank you for your observations. It seems there may have been a misunderstanding regarding our message, as we didn’t specifically mention that this opportunity was intended only for the Middle East region. That was our oversight, and we apologize for any confusion.
However, if you review the form we created for this call, you’ll notice on page 4 that the selection list includes only the names of the countries eligible for funding.
We have consistently communicated that CROP only applies to trips within the same region where the ICANN meeting is being held. Our mistake this time was not explicitly listing all the eligible countries. Nevertheless, we did share the relevant information, and while we encourage our members to read it and reach out with questions in a timely manner, we can't compel them to apply. Best Regards,

Hello Caleb,
You have written "I believe that if you read the regional classification on this link, https://drive.google.com/file/d/14seX2l_Gq5rE97gbr38i1EuUbKRZ5GHl/view you will see it." This your response just reiterates what I mentioned earlier.
This is what I wrote "*To start with it was not easy to identify the region that's covered. The letter says we should refer to the document to know the coverage. It would have been easier if it was clearly indicated that the region that it covers are Africa, Europe etc etc*."
So to explain again, if the email had clearly indicated that the CROP covers the *Middle East region*, without asking us to open the document to find the region, which most of us could not easily do, it would have helped.

I have taken the liberty to extract the information from the document to see the qualifying regions that could have applied.

Please let me know if this helps.

You mentioned that the initial announcement clearly showed the region the CROP covers. Could you please point out where in the initial announcement it was clearly indicated the region this covers and some of us did not see it, hence we are still asking. It will help.

Hi Raymond,
I believe the initial announcement was clear where it noted the qualifying regions which obviously did not have Africa as the meeting is not holding in Africa but in the GSE Middle East Region (Istanbul) as stated by Andrea in her initial email. For reference purposes, see the link to how regions are categorized in ICANN via the GSE https://drive.google.com/file/d/14seX2l_Gq5rE97gbr38i1EuUbKRZ5GHl/view
Secondly, I would not know if you have moved from Ghana Africa to the Middle East GSE region. If then, I would have hoped you applied as I know the process is transparent enough because all the executives will be voting for the best candidate that applied based on preset criteria that match CROP. By the way, CROP can only be used in a region where a meeting is holding.
However, I encourage you to continue to participate and trust the EC will always make the best judgment to stimulate engagement of our members.
Thank you all for your active participation and please don't forget to go welcome our new members we just added to the NPOC list.
Regards

Secondly for me I told myself even if I applied I would not get it, so why waste my energy.
Lastly, I assumed plenty other people already applied!

Dear members,
As Andrea has mentioned, the CROP opportunity has passed and is not available anymore. This is a pity as CROP is always a good opportunity for members to get more actively involved in ICANN DNS policy.
As we are surprised about this outcome, we would like to understand better why no requests were submitted. Maybe it was inconvenient due to timing, due to regional constraints or any other reason.
It would definitely help to have a better picture of the situation so I'd like to request some candid feedback from all of you.
Let us know!
