MDA missing from Quick Guide to EAI
A note from a fan says that we cover the MUA & MTA, but what about the MDA? Apparently most application bundle the MDA & MTA – but not all. So I think we should be explicit. Something to think about for the Seattle Meeting. Don

MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) may be something like sendmail, postfix,..., running SMTP in both client and server functions. MDA (Mail Delivery Agent) is usually the server side for POP or IMAP. Different protocols are involved, and so it should come at no surprise that it's often different software. Regards, Martin.

Don, Can you confirm with your friend whether the component that lack of coverage is MDA (mail delivery agent)? or protocols that mail clients use to access mail such as IMAP & POP3? MDA's function is to deliver the message to the user's inbox (usually file directory) so that mail client can access the message through IMAP or POP3 protocol. For the latter one, it is indeed lack of coverage in the quick guide. For the former one, many MTA covers the delivery. The quick guide didn't say much either, but it's a very different discussion than IMAP & POP3. Best, Joseph On Tue, Mar 28, 2017 at 11:33 PM, Martin J. Dürst <duerst@it.aoyama.ac.jp> wrote:

Joseph, One of the items on the agenda for next week is a close reading of the Quick Guide. We did this for the Quick Guide to UA as well as for UASG007 and both were excellent exercises. Don
