Proposed Topic for ICANN83 AFRALO-AfrICANN Joint Statement
Dear Herve, I would like to propose a topic for the ICANN83 Policy Forum AFRALO-AfrICANN joint statement: *"Enhancing DNS Abuse Mitigation Capacity in Africa"* DNS abuse is a growing problem on the Internet. It includes things like phishing, malware, and spam. Many African domain registries and Internet providers do not have strong tools or systems to stop this abuse. This can affect trust and safety online. This topic is important for Africa’s Internet safety and connects to ICANN’s work on DNS security. I believe it is important for AFRALO to ask ICANN to support Africa with training, tools, and resources to fight DNS abuse. This will help make the Internet safer for everyone in our region. Thank you for the opportunity to suggest this topic. Best regards, Seth Adjei Gyimah Cybersecurity Specialist & IT Trainer University of Ghana IT Directorate
Dear Seth, Thank you for bringing forward this important topic for consideration at the ICANN83 Policy Forum. I wholeheartedly support the proposal on "Enhancing DNS Abuse Mitigation Capacity in Africa." DNS abuse is a growing challenge that directly impacts the security and trustworthiness of the Internet ecosystem across our region. As African domain registries and internet service providers continue to expand, it is crucial that we strengthen our capacity to combat threats such as phishing, malware, and spam. Without robust mitigation strategies, users remain vulnerable, and confidence in digital infrastructure diminishes. I strongly endorse the call for ICANN’s support in providing targeted training, technical tools, and essential resources to help African stakeholders effectively address DNS abuse. Empowering local registries and service providers with the knowledge and tools to tackle these threats will contribute to a safer and more resilient Internet for all. I look forward to engaging in further discussions on this topic and collaborating to advance meaningful solutions. Thank you again for advocating for this crucial issue. Dear All, I also support the topic proposed by Seth "Enhancing DNS Abuse Mitigation Capacity in Africa." Among the resources we could use in drafting the statement is the INFERMAL project that gathered data on domain registration policies and analyzed them using statistical models the report was published by ICANN last year, so we could also look and the findings of the report and put forward recommendations regarding the next steps. Dear Herve,
I would like to propose a topic for the ICANN83 Policy Forum AFRALO-AfrICANN joint statement:
*"Enhancing DNS Abuse Mitigation Capacity in Africa"*
DNS abuse is a growing problem on the Internet.
Best regards,

Dear All, I second Seth's proposal. However, I would like to propose a tweak to the topic with a focus on all stakeholders rather than narrowing it only to Registries and Internet Service Providers. 1. Enhancing DNS Abuse Mitigation Capacity in Africa: A Multi-Stakeholder Approach OR 2. Africa's DNS Abuse Mitigation Initiative: Empowering Stakeholders Across the Ecosystem With either of the above topics, I guess the intent of the initial topic is held while expanding the reach of impact.
