Thanks Judith Actually I won't be choosing anyone for anything. These were Goran's updates as initial discussions about what is happening within ICANN that might be of interest to At-Large. We are lucky to get the heads-up. Re the tracker, still a work in progress, I believe. M On Thu, Sep 19, 2019 at 4:43 PM Judith Hellerstein <judith@jhellerstein.com> wrote:

Wow that's significant. I'd be interested to hear more about this! Kindest regards, Olivier
Hi Olivier So would we.. the SO-AC Chairs turned it down in Marrakech because there was no real plan or mechanism in place to apply for funds, how they would be distributed, any accountability measures, etc. These are apparently being prepared and we will find out what the actual process is when we have our meeting in Montreal. What we do know is that David Olive will be in charge and any project plan will only be accepted (and funding granted) if all the Chairs agree. Another thing - it's not a travel fund. For us, it must be aligned with ICANN's mission and enhance/add value to the work of At-Large. Nothing wrong with getting thinking caps on already. Hi Maureen Yes I would like to know more about this fund and what we can use it for. Like could it have paid for the policy training and capacity building training that Glenn had put in for funding that did not get approved? As for the iti, we had a briefing last TTF and so that Is always high in our agenda after the Lacralo translation tool. Hi Maureen, all Thank you, very interesting news, especially that about Flexibility Fund. Can't resist putting my thinking cap on: With that kind of money, ALAC/At Large could afford to back up its policy advice by some solid market research/ surveys in a sample of countries in all regions to find out, what individual Internet end users actually think about some issues within ICANN's remit. There might be a role for ALS'es here, too, in liaising with local research outfits. My 2 cents. That sounds like an excellent plan Yrjo? I like the idea of research being carried out in the regions along the lines you suggest. And, including a multistakeholder perspective.. governments, business, technologists, users. We might need to bring in some experts to ensure that all ethical considerations required for credible research are incorporated, - if we cant find them within our ranks. 🙂👍 M On Fri, 20 Sep 2019, 10:44 AM Yrjö Länsipuro, <yrjo_lansipuro@hotmail.com> wrote:

Ah yes. Assuming research happens and while I would not wish to "colt" the game, I'll give even money the priority issues for end users - what they most care about - are all the things ICANN would insist are not within its remit. Many thanks for the usefull update and feedback Maureen, I am in agreement with Yrjo's proposal. using the fund to support Research would give us some usefull insights which will bolster our engagement efforts within the ICANN Organization and Community.
