Making deals behind closed doors on a subject that affects more than 144 million users is detrimental to positive growth, no matter what the particular topic of discussion happens to be. This is no different. In this case, the ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the best interest of the public. If this is not done anyone can dictate the outcome of end-users having a presence on the internet or participating in its growth. In doing so it would inevitably result in total anarchy across the network. I am a registrant of .com domains and that being said, I do not know of anyone, other than Verisign, wanting increases in the already established .COM prices. The current rates are already far more than justified. Why is it that this is even a consideration? Allowing these transactions to proceed forward will create a completely unnecessary barrier for those individuals who already have or want to have an online presence. Additionally, I have yet to see any kind of supporting evidence that implementing this amendment would lead to investments in the infrastructure or any positive effects for the end-user. In these times where an open internet is already under threat and the cost of doing business is escalating globally already, I sincerely hope you reconsider and stop these proceedings from moving forward. The most recent agreement to allow Verisign to increase its wholesale price for .com TLDs is completely unreasonable. As far as I can tell, there are no additional costs which could justify this increase. There are no additional services provided to TLD lessees, and there has been no appreciable increase in Verisign's operational costs. Based on the agreement as proposed, the price for domains could increase by as much as 100% over just the next decade, with all of that money going directly into Verisign shareholder pockets. This is nothing more than oligarchical cronyism, pure and simple. Owners of .com TLDs are not just Facebooks and Googles. I own a personal .com TLD for my personal business as an independent contractor and artist. Any increase in costs--even modest ones--makes a real difference in my bottom line. Domain name resellers will have to pass that cost on to me, the consumer. I insist that ICANN rescind this agreement as it exists today and begin public negotiations. *** It will KILL my business if I have to pay more yearly because any increase will be multiplied by 100 domains! I am a domainer (I invest in domain names as a business). I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. *** It doesnt cost anymore to manage the registry, so why should their be an increase? The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. <<< my personal comments >>> Hello ladies and gentlemen, I operate a small therapy coaching practice where I own quite a few domains (100+) as roadmaps to guide people to my website. Maybe I am crazy to own so many? But, I see this as a way to combat the instability of SEO making it easy for clients to find me. I hope in your decision process you consider the "little" guy ;) Any increase in domain fees would dramatically impact my business and ability to help people. One final point, if you want to increase the fees for domain brokers or people who have held onto a domain without it even pointing to a real website or offering the URL for sale on GoDaddy, etc... even if it is pointed to a domain then I believe that should be a consideration. I also believe that current technology can "vet" this idea to tax or increase the fees for those who are in the business of selling domains because that is their choice to be in that business. Hello, I believe this new initiative to increase prices on .com TDL is disastrous for the domain owners and very clearly Verisign Inc. I operate several hundred domains on behalf of my clients and I can say without hesitation that most .com domain owners will simply move away from .com TDL. That will cost Verisign Inc.'s revenue potential as well as sending a wrong message to generations to come. If there is a clear reason for such increase in price at the rate being discussed, I believe consumers have the right to know why and what for. $20 million being funded to ICANN also doesn't explain anything about what the ICANN is planning to do with the fund. This initiative is being seen with great skepticism from consumers world wide and .com domain operators, just because of the lack of transparency. Without it, there will be significant backlash and lack of trust in the future. There will be no reasons anymore to buy .com domains, since there are plenty others available. Regards, T.P.
